I think I suffer a Sulpher alergy. I like to drink a glass of wine with meals. Even when I drink only one glass I get a burning sensation across the stomach area that is very uncomfortable. To aleviate the problem I drink a glass of Eno (Effervencence) and after 10 minutes or so it settles down. Can anyone assist in suggesting a type of wine I can buy

How very unpleasant for you, but i'm puzzled why of all the substances that are in wine, what makes you think that sulphur is the problem? Is it because there is the message 'contains sulphites' on the label?

It is extremely unlikley that sulphur in wine is the problem unless you get the same reaction when you eat dried fruits, eggs or drink fruit juice -- they all contain sulphur and sometimes many times higher levels than permitted in wine. The only clearly recognised problem with sulphur in wine is for about 1% of people who are asthmatic.

Organic wines are not sulphur free, they just use less in the wine making process and even those that add no sulphur at all usually contain sulphur since it is produced naturally during fermentation.

However, Frei winery have tested their wines and some of them show no detectable sulphur so you may like to try them.

But I suggest your unpleasant problem has a different cause and it may be worth consulting your doctor -- I do hope it soon clears and that you can again enjoy wine.

Yes, there are many brands of wines made in California labeled as organic that are made without sulpher dioxide.

You're allergic to sulphates. That's what they use to preserve the wine.

Try Organic or Kosher Wines. By Kosher I don't mean Mogan David or Manichewitz. They DO have Kosher varietal wines that have won awards

For you there would be no wine that you would not be allergic to all wines have sulphiting agents in them, just don't drink wine, it probably has too much of this agent in it for you, just as champayne has for my husband, he gets sick with champayne and so avoids it now I could suggest Organic wines for your choice. Good Luck !

THis doesn't sound like a sulphur/sulphite problem but, rather, acid reflux. You should see a gastroentologist to see what damage has already been done inside you.

Try organic wine. If you're in the UK, Sainsbury's is excellent!
