No, for myself everything has always been fine at the dentist. I do not fret any of the procedures and all have been considerate and thorough. However, from my childhood comes the true story of what happened in our small country town where I was raised (in the later sixties ..... oeps I'm old). There was only one dentist in town and he had big thick glasses and was sometimes a bit insensitive and on another planet. One day a mother and father was sitting in the waiting room, while this dentist was to perform a procedure on their small child. The child was constantly screaming blue murder and when the rather went to see for themself this dentist was busy administering the injection, of which the needle at that stage were coming out of the childs cheek on the outside. Mmmmm gruesome things probably happened only in the old days ......!

Awww yes - just thinking about it now makes me wince!! Went to the dentist because of bad tooth ache, and it turned out that I needed a filling - not too bad, or so I thought.
After a couple of days I was still in pain, if anything worse than I was before and I couldn't eat or drink anything on that side. So I went back to the dentist - a temporary dentist told me the filling was just settling and that I should expect a certain amount of pain - charming.
After a about a week, the pain was getting worse and worse, almost unbearable, so I went back to the original dentist that did the work. After having an x-ray he realised that he had left a nerve open on the filling, so he had to drill out the filling I had and refill the hole - I was not impressed!!!
I haven't been able to go back to the dentist ever since!!!!

The dentist I went to as a child was horrid. He used to put the needle in then leave it there, sticking out of your mouth whilst he went off to do other stuff! He also shouted at me for not opening my mouth wide enough . After being sent to him for my entire childhood I stopped going. Didn't visit another dentist for 15 years until I had to go and find one because I had really bad toothache. The dentist I have now is lovely, she's a tiny slip of a thing but can yank teeth out like you wouldn't believe!

My dad made me go to the dentist as a kid, he was an awful dentist, and would give a filling when it wasn't needed I guess so he could claim payment from the goverment, He gave me a brace, which I was told later that I didnt need, he frightned the heck out of me and I am still petrified of dentists.

I had to go a few years ago, due to what I found out was an abcess, I went to the hospital dentist, sat in the chair and he said, yes that needs to come out, turned around and picked up a needle, heck I was off the chair and ran out of the place shaking, straight to teh chemist for a box of pain killers.

I managed to find a dentist that would give me sedation, as I couldn't even ring to ask about an appointment, my husband found me a dentist, private paying only, but he gave me sedation and I chatted away while he took out my tooth, did something about "root canal" i'd prefer not to know what he is doing, and even went back while he made and fitted a false ceramic tooth for me. It cost me an arm and a leg but I am not scared of going to see him anymore, just scared of the bill afterwards.

no, but if you did just switch dentist's. every dentist is different and will treat you differently. a bad experience shouldn't let you have bad teeth for the rest of your life.

everyone makes mistakes =]

I had a tooth extracted under gas as a child. They hadn't put me out properly, and I felt every tug. Agony. I've managed to get over it though, and have had lots of different procedures done since. None were as painful fortunately!
