The air causes oxidation in the iron present in the apple and thus it browns. Oxidation is loss of electrons, meaning that substances in the air act as an oxidizing agent but are actually reduced.

That's normal. The air when you cut it makes the apple brown.

I am not sure but I know sea salt helps preserve sliced apples.

it has something to do with the reaction it has againt air...brush some lemon juice over apple slices and it wont brown as much

because of the reaction between the cut apple and oxygen, if cut an sealed in air tight bag this reaction will be halted for a time

Its due to them becomeing oxidized, you can prevent them from browning by putting them in a bowl of water with lime juice in it this will prevent them from oxidizing you can also use lemon juice as well

they loose there small amount of acidity, quickley when exsposed to air,which browns them.a quick dip in some lemon juice solves that problem
