in replay to dee uy most dogs are breed to have soemthing ot do with water and if your watching them closely they wont drown. Wether its hunting or anything like that. But my 3 yr. old choc. lab Woodie and 7 month old rotti.choc. lab mix, Charlie, who love the water. I would first tintroduce them to water in your bathtub with it filled up to be only about 3-5 inches. And take some toys in there and wile hes in there u can give him treats. Then just play with him. If u have to put on a bathing suit get in the water and hold him in your lap. Eventually hell get used to it and u can add more water. you can even use one of those kiddie pools. Or if u have a regular pool and depending on where u live and the wheather you can take him into the pool but make sure your holding him close to you so he doesn't get scared. When Charlie was a little pup i brought him down to the lake (our back yard is Lake Champlain in Vermont) and first put him in a couple inches and then i took him and hugged him close and i waded out and then i went deeper and deeper and he loved it. Then i took him away form my body a little bit and he started paddling even when i lifted him out of the water he was paddling the air. But he soon quickly learned ot swim. And if u live near a lake after your dog has graduated from the bathtub u can take him there. But do what i did wiht charlie to teach him how to paddle before u totally let him go. When hes learnd=ed how to paddl eput him so he mostly floating but your hand is still under him!
Good luck and your dog will be swimming in no time! But remember to all ways watch your dog in the water!

Dogs, like anything, have to be trained to like it. Put the dog in the tub and gradually fill it with luke warm water at first so that the dog won't get frightened of the new thing touching his body. After the dog gets used to it, advance him to cold. Be careful...some like water so much that they ENJOY being in it. Good luck on training him.

no. that will scare it. put water in after he's in the tub. or better yet, take him to a shore and let him gradually get in the water, so it's a natural thing.
