We have a tredmill and the ab lounge i use those, my problem is i had knee surgery when i was 6 and have arthritis in both knees. I can only walk on the treadmill for 5 minutes without my knees hurting and my head pounding. I just want to tone up. Please i appreciate any comments.

Swimming is a great exercise for people with joint problems. There is no pounding on the joints, as you are not putting any weight on your legs.

In your case I would become an expert in floor exercises. I hurt my knee in a running accident so I don't spend much time on treadmills.

I do floor exercises 3 times a week about 45 minutes a session. I perform up to 35 different exercises with reps of 25 each. I play upbeat dance music and go none stop for the 45 minutes.

I am sorry but I don't know where to send you to get information on the many different type of movements. I actually learned these about 15 years ago with my ex-wife. In fact I taught her because she was always the lazy type when it came to working out. I learned these because I needed to find away to get a good workout on rainy days. After awhile I started creating my own and this will happen for you as well.

The point is floor exercises will tone your body. As you get strong enough you can add ankle weights to tone even more. You also have the options of concentrating your efforts in your problem areas.

Good luck...

The best way I can think of to tone up is to do this: I used to do the Atkins diet and did a lot of walking and pilates.... Go to walmart, get an exercise mat and a pilates dvd (I got the MTV Pilates dvd). Although it was hard at first it got easier and even fun at times.... :)

The other thing you can do is eat healthier... don't snack a lot on junk food, drink more water than pop and keep a positive attitude....

Weights. Less weight, and more repetitions. Dont lift too much weight or you'll gain muscle. Enough weight that after 20 lifts you are feeling it. This will tone your musles, and get you in tip top condition. For the Abs...situps, crunches. Try riding a bike to help you knees...i had knee surgery too and the bike helps alot.

if possible, replace running with swimming, if u don't already have access to one at ur gym, look for a ymca or something and swim laps for maybe 30 minutes to an hour everyday, it will work miracles for ur muscles, it burns calories like crazy, and its really easy on ur joints. try to eliminate sodas, fried foods, red meat, chips, candy, junk food. eliminate the fat and get the right amount of calories, and don't forsake protein, but make it lean protein (chicken!) good luck

Pilates works great... It tones & sculpts muscles in simple, slow movements.
