Now, I'm sure that this is going to be a controversial question, I am as what I would consider a non religious person and am reading the left behind series. I am currently reading The Mark and I'm having trouble with these books. Would people say they have been written by the evangelical right because although they have an interesting slant on the whole revelation thing I can't help but be concerned with how these so called christians come across in terms of actual christian beliefs that are continually reinforced throughout the books. I'm not talking about within the context of the books because I'm reading them to get the ideas that fuel christians in the real world. I'm interested in peoples responses to this and I must say that I am finding the books quite entertaining if a little bit basic and what I'd describe as a book for the beach. Anyone care to comment? :o)

Ive recently read them all as well, and thoroughly enjoyed them, but what you have got to remember is that they are fiction. They are thought provoking and deep, but still fiction. Enjoy them as they are a great series.

I've just bought book eleven and going back to the start, I couldn't put the first book down, it was finished in two sessions.

The series was written by two evangelists. People spit the word 'evangelical' out as though it is something to be ashamed of, I think it's a badge of pride.

You must understand that to most charismatic (Pentecostal) evangelicals, this is quite a good guess at how the world will end. No-one knows for sure when or how of course but the Bible does outline some of the events in Revelations. Wormwood could be a nuclear attack, after all the Russian word for wormwood is Chenovyl. Since it's described as a falling star, it could be a meteor. Some believe that this particular event happened with Chenovyl as it was supposed to poison a third of the rivers and seas, which more or less happened when the plant exploded.

However, it's all pure conjecture and we won't know for certain until the end of mankind does happen. However, this makes very enjoyable reading for Christians ... and apparently, non-Christians.

I read all the books, except the two of the ones they made after the series, and I thought they were great. Everything about the end times were correct as far as being in scripture. The only question is interpretation. Some say that what's in the Bible are metaphors, and others say it's literal. I honestly don't know what stance to take. I don't really worry about it though because I know I will go to Heaven and I might not even be here when it happens. To me it's just one of those things that are on a need to know basis. On earth we will never fully understand everything about God. I think things will be clearer once we are in Heaven or Hell. It's like when we were growing up, our parents told us to do something and even if we didn't understand it we were expected to do it. They gave you the info when they were sure you would understand it. I do believe that the world will be that bad. It also states in the Bible that the people that are left behind will have to make a choice and their eternity will depend on that choice. Anyway, I do believe the men that wrote them are Christians. One is a pastor who worked on the theology part and the other is a writer that kind of put together the characters and the storyline. I think it was written well and makes sense to me. Just curious as to what specific beliefs you are talking about?

they're good books if you ask me, an they're described as "apocolyptic", as they speak of the future decay of society. The Bible mentions an event known as "the gathering", where God's people are taken away from the earth, and everyone else'll be left behind. the rapture essentially is this event, taken from Daniel and Revalation mostly. the word rapture however is just an english word to destinguish this event from other "gatherings". personally, I like the movies better.

and do you mean the Evangelical Christian denomination, or someone who isn't associated with a church directly? Cuz the movie is Biblically accurate, to the extent I've seen them.

and what do you consider as religious? if you mean bowing down to God out of devotion or memorizing prayers as religious, then you're probably not (and technically neither am I). I don't like to think of myself as religious, cuz I don't do things "just because" or "because God says so". I do things that are beneficial to my relationship with God, talking to God is just one of 'em.

I know that they are anti-Catholic. The only (supposedly) decent Catholic clergyman in them is some guy that is so far to the Left it stinks with his Liberalism. The whole left behind thing with the Rapture and all that is not a Biblical teaching. It is something thought up just fairly recently and people just love the idea that they personally are so good they do not have to be punished for their sins. It is the old health and wealth take on Christianity. That is false. Christianity helps us to deal with the suffering here on Earth. It does not replace it.

From what i've got seen so some distance, that's a B action picture. certainly, i've got seen 2 of them. i in my opinion think of that the expertise that it takes to make a drama approximately that project hasn't been found out yet. i think of that Kirk Cameron and a number of the others are high-quality actors and actresses, it is in basic terms that the complexity of the project demands an poor lot with the intention to be 'presentatble' to the final public. The funds would be impressive, for one. i'd additionally upload that there looks to me to be a prefer of a narritive, with the intention to continuously connect scripture with the action picture, according to danger an actor as John seeing the events unfold, mutually as they unfold right here in modern circumstances. His voice would be utilized to segue between events to maintain the objective audience stated. The heavenly view would evolve into the human on earth view to make certain that the objective audience to conform with the place the order of events is commanded from.

I don't think it is very controversial at all, If you look on the spine of the book you should be able to find a small "F", this means it is a work of fiction. In other words it is not true, no matter who claims authorship.

The Left Behind series was created to define to non believers and believers of the events that are to come. yes it is a fictional series but it also lines up with scripture. The events in Revelation are unfolding. I will give you a site and you can conclude for yourself. Please find a church get involved, ask God into your heart, for the things that are going to happen I do not wish on anyone. I hope I will see everyone one day in heaven. God Bless You!!

I haven't read them. I understand them to be the speaking of a cult, and not to reflect true faith. I read an article presenting the thesis that Bush believes them so much that he is playing commander of the millenial force. How is that for scary?

I don't buy into any of that rapture garbage. Do a search on Darbyism -- he invented all of that stuff! Christianity got along just fine without that stuff for more than 1,800 years!!!!! Save your time, energy and money!
