If it was an accident, then go to bat for him. Kids his age aren't going to go to bat for themselves with the school administration. He didn't know he did anything wrong, and he wasn't asked about it until you asked him. Go to school with him on Monday, and present his side of the story. You're THE PARENT, and you have a perfect right tio stand up for him. I have a 25 year old son who needed me in his corner all the way through school.

I'm also a mother and I think our first reaction is to defend our children but reading your situation I think that the school is over reacting a bit. I helped out at my son's school 2yrs ago and helped a boy there that also had Aspergers and yes he had out bursts but never purposely directed at another child. And from what your son said to you it sounds as though it really was an accident. Maybe it's time for a parent teacher meeting because you know that your son may have other incidents in the future and you don't want the school treating him unfairly.
Maybe they need some educating when it comes to his condition?

I am a mother and I also volunteer on the play ground at recess. We generally let a lot of bad behavior go by until we take any action. We talk with the child and give them at least a few warnings. Next we simply send them to their home room teacher ... and last we notify the parent. This is a good opportunity for you to talk to the staff and ask them what the process is what steps if any had been takin in your son's case.

P.S. The most common response by children even when it's intentional ... "it was an accident"

Talk witrh the principal and explain what you were told and the part you know your son did wrong ND SAYING YOU ARE DEALING WITH THAT, ask if principal could talk with son and maybe cut back on time as it all started with a mistake and have son apologize to the other child.
This may work but you need to be real nice to principal no matter how hard itr is.

All kids know to cover thier butts - I worked w kids w aspergers and they are no dummy's! He probably did smack the other kid and doesnt want to get in trouble at home. They may not have confronted him at school, I dont know why, you can ask if you want but I would let it go.

in this situation you should get witnesses but im a kid and i always try the accidently thing in school as well. It never works because on the outside accidently will still egt you in jail. but if you child forgot you need to fight the school on this call the school board and they will go on the school like health inspectors the school will learn from this
