The sas defended a fort there from the Adoo. The Adoo were a communist insurgent group. The Fort is still there, along the coast east from Salalah in Oman. I the communists had taken over Oman, they would have controlled the Straits of Hormuz a key shipping lane carrying vast amounts of oil.

it was in Oman in the 1960's and 1970's. And the adoo was just a slang term derived from the Arabic word for enemy, not an insurgent group. Fore more details on the battle where a handful of SAS men took down a vastly out-numbering force read SAS : the soldiers story by Jack Ramsay or Ramsey
