Yes, you can take a cat you've been feeding, as long as you found them outside. If no one cared enough to put up "lost" ads for him, they probably don't want him anyway.

If the cat seems that it has not no owner and no collar you can take it in. You might want to post a few found posters in the area. Just to cover your buns legally. If you hang posters then you are showing that you genuinely thought that the cat was lost or abandoned and you were trying to do the right thing. Also take photos of how sick he looks incase the owner comes back later. If he is someones cat they probably should not own a cat.

If you take the cat to a vet then you are assuming ownership of the cat and then become responsible for it's care. At that point you would become responsible for costs related to it's treatment. What is good about this scenario is that you then become the one who makes decisions about how you want him treated. So if you want to pull out all the stops then you can.

If you do not want that responsibility or you can not afford it then you can take him to a shelter. You can explain the situation and they will take the cat for free. If they are not willing to do that then you do not want to deal with them, find another shelter. There are No Kill Shelters if you are concerned about him being put down. You could try those if you are worried about that happening. Most shelters do put cats down if they are severely injured or sick.

This is either bad or good depending on your view point regarding life and overpopulation. I do not know what the weather is where you are but I am in Upstate New York and there is 4 feet of snow and it is 0 at night. Is death worse than living a life like that? Especially if he is sick? That is something you are going to have to decide.

I think it is great that you are trying to do the right thing. Good Luck.

if you dont want him , or cant afford the cost of treatment , you shoould call the animal shelter in your area , tell them the situation.

They will either help you fix him up, or they will yake him for vet care and try to find him a home.

If the cat has a tag you must try to contact the owner.

Yes you should take him as your own, if no one has obviously been taking care of him. Take him to the vet & they will give you medication for the earmites, etc, and you will have yourself a cat. Do not have him put down, as he will probably make a fine pet, after being taken care of.They will not put him to sleep for ear mites, they are easy to take care of. Good luck!!!

no. if they abandoned the animal, they gave up all rights. if the cat isn't abandoned, it is badly neglected to the point of suffering from abuse. take the cat & do whatever needs doing. the scum who let the cat get in this condition want exterminating. do the right thing & good on you for caring.

please take the cat to the vet and see if he is OK other than mites. have him tested for feline aids and leukemia if he is positive and his life is going to be terribly ill, make a decision about putting him down then . but ear mites are not deadly.
