I want to become a better cook, but don't have time nor the budget to take cooking classes like the Culinary Inst in Pasadena. Also, I really don't have time to go to regular cooking classes. So I'm wondering if there are any restaurants or places where people can go and watch great or even master chefs prepare their magic live? I am interested in Northern Italian, Thai, Indian and Mandarin Chinese. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this available in LA? Thanks

Have you ever attended the L.A. Wine & Food Festival?

It's August 18-20 and will include cooking demos by a number of chefs. They don't have the schedule up yet for this year, but last year's included Tommy Tang (Thai cooking), Iron Chef Cat Cora and Amy Reiley, who is one of only 15 people worldwide to hold the title Master of Gastronomy from the Cordon Bleu school in France.

Also, there was a Chinese Food Festival in June 2006 that I believe is annual. They featured demos by local chefs. You can find their website here:

Festivals are a great place to see demos and try out all kinds of new things.
