Loaned vehicle; and now person says I will not get vehicle back. When is it considered auto theft in the state of Florida?

Police say that I can not file police report at this time; because I loaned it out. Person who I loaned vehicle out to has taken it out of state.

In some states this is embezzlement. It became stolen the moment you asked for it back & they refused. Report it to the cops asap.

It is time to put your foot down! That is YOUR car. Show up with the extra keys to your car and repossess your vehicle. You don't have to tell them your are coming or even taking the car. They can't report the car stolen if you own it. Better yet, have the police escort you when you go to pick up the vehicle. If they do not hand over the car, you will at least have a police report saying you tried.
Unfortunately, the only way to get someone to pay attention is to take them to small claims (hopefully the car wasn't worth more than the allowed small claims limit in your state) This is where your police report will come in handy.
Good luck Hon.

If the title is in your name, then you are the legal owner of any vehicle. What that person did is a theft in any state. File charges, go to your local Police Department and fill out a report on theft of vehicle. Then you'll get your car back.

Wow, I can't believe the police won't let you file a stolen vehicle report! I'd call a different barracks - either the state police or local, whichever you didn't call before.

You could also call your congressman, and ask them for help.

Unfortunately, it's "conversion" and not covered under the theft portion of your auto policy. Bummer!!

WHEN is it considered theft?

NOW it is considered theft.

If you are the legal owner of the vehicle you can report it stolen.

However, if this is a family member or friend that you're talking about, and are involved in the middle of a fight... don't waste the police's time with it. Resolve the issue amicably and get on with it.

*** EDIT ***

They are out of state? What do you want them to do, come back just because you want your car after you KNOWINGLY lent it to them?

This is basically your fault.

you could desire to record it stolen based on the information as you have defined them, yet i do no longer see how that solves your situation. The police are unlikely to return the vehicle to you like a private transport provider. At terrific, they're going to impound the vehicle till you're taking place to hold mutually it (at your cost). considering the fact which you will couldcontinual available besides, why no longer basicallycontinual available and take the vehicle decrease back?

File a police report now, if you told the person you wanted the car back, and they won't return it, then it is considered stolen because it is being used without the owner's permission.

i have never heard of the police acting like this before, you can now report it stolen because it has left the state, who knows what there going to do with the car, one thing for sure is you need it back,id call the highway patrols office and report it stolen this means you,ll have to press charges against that person but its better than loosing the car,the highway patrol will help you on this matter, there not like the local cops, they will help you find the car and the person who has it,good luck,i hope you get it back,

Call the police and ask them to escort you to get it back. Make sure you have all the documentation to show you are the registered owner. If they can't escort you, ask them if you just report it stolen and but make sure you make it known that you loaned it to them and now refuses to return it.

Never. In any state. But it is unauthorized use which can lead to their arrest and the return of the vehicle.
