how do i get my dad to buy me a dog? I have asked this question 3 times on yahoo! answers and have tried 1. I tried to talk to him about it, but my dad just said no and didn't let me say anything else. I am going to give him a letter in like 2 days, but I don't know if it will work. And my dad is nice, but if you ask him 1 thing more than once in like a month, he will get furious. That is why I am scared to tell him I will be responsible enough.
He does not have allergies, because he pets all kinds of dogs with no problem. I know for sure he does not have bad memories of dogs, since he was too poor to own a dog, and his neighborhood was probably like that, too. I researched all about the dog breeds, and he has seen me read a book of dogs, and he just ignores it. I also don't think it's cuz of the money, because he has a good job and just got promoted, so when I get my braces,it'll be free and he's willing to spend $ 4 me

is a maltese good for a 1st time dog owner? thx!

Pet ownership is not just about money. It has to be a full commitment for the entire family. How about volunteering at a local shelter until it is time to add a dog to the family. Right now ,your Father is the pack leader of your family. Respect his wishes.

I answered this for you before. I am not sure if you took any of that advise but I will give you a few more ideas.

Maybe you should ask him WHY he does not want you to have a dog. That way you can know how to attack the problem. Maybe he just does not like dogs. Some people don't. Maybe he thinks that you are not responsible enough. I am sure you can not see that - but children never do. If that is the case over time you can change his mind by being really responsible. I really think that you can do a better job of convincing him if you know why he said no. You can say
"Dad I know that you said I can not have a dog and I respect your answer. I know parents do not like explaining themselves to kids but I simply want to know why you said no. I really want a dog and maybe if I know why you said no it will make me not want one."

If that does not work then try again later with bargaining.
Like Dad if I do all the laundry for the entire house for 6 months or something like that.

Most likely because he will end up doing most of the work. Either way you think of it, even if you are responsible, who will look after the dog while you are in college for the rest of its life? He will. So it looks like you have tried, and I'm sorry but there doesn't seem to be anything else you can do. Pushing it and asking over and over again will not help. Instead, drop it for a while and show him that you are responsible. Maybe in a couple of months, bring it up again but this time ask why.

i dont know about you dad, but no i dont think a maltese would be a good dog for a you, they require lots of grooming and do you have the money to pay for it?
for your first dog i would suggest a wash and wear. like a jack russell or rat terrier.
the maltese has to be brush daily or at least every other day, they need the hair by their eyes to be cut so they dont get tear stain. can you keep up with all that?
keep doing research on all the differnt types of breeds, go help out at your local shelters they always need someone just to come in a play with the pups..

Do you have the time for a dog? If you are at school/college who is going to look after the dog while you are there? Your dad clearly works so he wont be able to. I never was allowed a dog when I was at home I had to wait until I left home and had my own place before I got one. Remember it's his house. How about offering to work at a shelter at weekends and during the holidays as a substitute?

You are going to have to prove to your dad that you are responsible enough for a dog. They are definitely a big responsiblilty. To prove it, you're going to have to show that you're responsible. I don't know how old you are, so i don't know what kind of suggestions to make on how to show it. If you do something to show you are responsible, it may take a good while before he decides you really want a dog bad enough to take care of it, but at least you will be showing that you do have the self-discipline.

Parents are reluctant to get time consuming pets for their kids because they will end up doing all the work - walking, feeding, picking up poop etc. SHow your father how responsible you are somehow or discuss this with him. That is the main objection. I have a border collie and she sheds so much hair so we have to vacuum once a day. My kid doesn't see the hair~!

well when i asked my mom for the husky i have now that we found at the humane society she kept telling me no. Four days later i came home one day and he was in my backyard waiting for me. What you want is to read up on the type of dog you want and tell him about it. I told my mom, huskys are very smart and easy to potty train. And what really gets my mom is me saying "just come down to the pound to see the dog" and once she sees the dog shes suckered in and wants it also.
