I know that I just have a cold, but normally I get stuck with the bad runny/stuffed up nose, not the really awful sore throat and cough. But now, I do have a really bad sore throat and I can bearly talk. Any suggestions on how to soothe it?

Drink hot lemonade or gargle with warm salty water. You'll get your voice back in no time and it makes it feel better. I know it seems lame but its a home remedy that my mother taught me.

You can gargle with warm salt water every couple hours. Put 1/4 tsp of salt in a cup of warm water. Between that time, though, sip on cold liquids and/or popsicles as constantly as you can. You can hardly talk because your throat and vocal cord area are swollen. Cold liquids will help take down the swelling. If you're not allergic to ibuprofen, take that to help with the swelling and inflammation. Or take some tylenol to help with the pain and swelling. If you're running a fever and your throat doesn't feel any better using those remedies, you may need a culture for strep. As it's the weekend, you may want to go to an Urgent Care clinic to have your throat checked out if there's a possibility it's strep.
Try to keep your bedroom humidified during the night. Either run a cool mist vaporizer, or place some pots of water near your heat vents to help moisturize the air and keep your mucous membranes moist.

Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

Try gargling with warm water and vinegar. Sounds nasty but it works. One ounce of vinegar, four ounces of warm water and gargle.
