Absolutely, exercise is key to a dogs long life. Use it or lose it! If your dog is older and even if it has arthritis walking is the best exercise to keep the joints from stiffening up. Always talk to your vet about the amount she will require but, 10 minutes sound good to me. My dog did it up until he was 14.

Gosh a 10 minute walk would do for a 14 year old dog. My Border Collie is 13 and she used to get a 1 hour walk every day minimum. Now I take her 20 minutes. When a dog is tired they sit down or just stop and fact the direction of home. Keep going until she objects to the walk.

I have a dog who's well over 9 now, healthy, and his walks are about an hour long. If there's no health problems with your dog, no pain from arthritis, she needs to be walked more than just 10 minutes a day - for her heart health if nothing else!

The older she gets, the more she needs exercise....in moderation, of course. Let her walk for as long as she can tolerate it. When she starts slowing down, and/or breathing hard, let her rest. I had a 15 year old Black Lab who could outplay and outlast most puppies. If yours has problems walking and/or getting up, or shows signs of stiffness and soreness, you can give her an ASPIRIN (no Tylenol EVER!!!) once a day. I also HIGHLY recommend Glucosamine and Chondroitin (G & C).....my 15 y/o Lab and 15 y/o Husky went from "gimpy old men" to spry, active puppies within 2 weeks on one G & C a day.......the stuff is amazing, and allowed both dogs to stay active and have a FUN life until cancer took them both within 3 months of each other. The more active your dog can be, the longer and happier her life will be!!!!! Good luck to you both, and keep up those walks!!!!!

Of course you can! You wouldn't stop exercising in your senior years, would you? Keeping her fit is one of the ways you can keep her healthy and with you longer. Barring any health concerns (such as severe dysplasia in hips or elbows), a daily walk is always good for her. Being a golden, she could easily go longer than that safely. If you're worried about her health with the daily walks, maybe you should take her to the vet for a basic check-up. While you're there, you can ask if she is in good enough condition for short walks daily.

A 9 year old golden retriever should be getting considerably more exercise than 10 minutes aday. My 3 mini poodles and mini dachshund get at least an hour off lead a day. They need a lot of exercise to keep fit. I would INCREASE her exercise not reduce it, that could kill her.

Yes, she still needs exercise, and 10 minutes really isn't a lot. She still has plenty of years in her, and the exercise may even keep her healthy. If she ever develops arthritis, then it may be something to discuss with your vet. But as long as she is healthy and able to do the walk, I would suggest you keep walking her.

You should continue with the walks. they are good for her aging body and peace of mind. you will be able to tell if the walks are bothering her. if you think they are, cut the time. even old doggies need excercise!
