So my wife can put me in loads of pain by plucking them.

Now they just grow faster and thicker

More Pain for me.

Oh god now she wants to look at my nose.

More to the point, why did we stop growing hair everywhere else? This is merely a developmental throwback. Nasal hair however still has a small function in helping to reduce the risk of inhaling foreign bodies through the nose, acting as a net.

the hair that grow in your nose and ears acts as a filter to help trap particles that other wise would go directly into your system.

To block dirt, dust and debris from entering the sensitive passages into the head.
The nose and ear hair also acts as sensors to detect movement such as an insect trying to enter during wake or sleeping hours . . .something going back to our cave dwelling stages

My hair seems to not have enough energy to push its way through the top of my head anymore! So I presume it's looking for another way out through my ears and nose.

Good question. fortunately i know the answwer to that. hair grows in your nose because it blocks out dusts and other substances. when there is a lot blocked, you sneeze. Same with ears except it turns into wax... gross stuff, huh?

Not sure about your ears but you have hairs in your nose to catch the mucus when you have a cold otherwise the bogies would just drop straight out!

In your nose it helps trap dirt and debris so it doesn't go father into your nose and sinuses. Hair in your ears also can trap some dirt and debris.
