The only way for him to resolve this would be to go to a US military base, turn himself in and face the punishment that he has earned. There is a warrant for his arrest and if he is discovered he will be arrested.

Personally, I feel that the fact that he cannot return to the US is an appropriate punishment. BTW - it would be really ironic justice for him to be caught and punished - then deported as a convicted felon.

PS - the Carter amnesty only applied to draft-dodgers. There has been no pardon and there is no statute of limitations for deserters.

initially, in Canada if a soldier would not have faith interior the conflict, they do no longer seem to be sent! There could be no reason at the back of them to flow AWOL. My husband is doing his DAG this week to flow over seas. no longer basically does he could flow to Psych, so do I. Our military makes advantageous that the family individuals unit is powerful and arranged to outlive a deployment. we've time-commemorated some squaddies who did no longer believe the conflict in Afghanistan and that they've left the army, without prejudice.

If somebody wanted me to go to war for a reason that i did not understand and i felt like this war would not defend my country in any way than i would be a coward draft skipper too. Its easy to just say, ya if my country needed me i would go, but you have to think does my country really need me or is this just a way for the munition company's to make money.

Those guys have all been forgiven. There should be no repercussions, no legal ones, they will still go to the grave as cowards.
