Toyota has lost its way, and has more recalls in '06 than vehicles made for three years running. The Corolla IS NOT SAFE, AND IS ON FORBES LIST OF LEAST SAFE VEHICLES WITH A RATING OF "POOR". Consumers still love Toyota, but they have fallen to the bottom. Here is one of the best websites: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2006/10/toyota_quality.html
It has lots of good info from their tons of recalls to excuses from toyotas exutives about their newfound lameness. Save yourself the pain of a lemon and get yourself a Civic or Cobalt. In Car and Drivers test the Corolla was placed in 5/6, with the last place Nissan a fresh model, and therefore had none of its "bugs" worked out. http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/11880/2007-toyota-corolla-le.html The Car and Driver test was only Asian, small sedans so the Cobalt was not in it, but in Automobile Magazines test the Cobalt SS came in second to the Civic Si. The Ford Focus is the most recalled car in NHSTA history, so its not much bettter. Test all the alternatives, and you will wind up with a better car.

You should consider other cars... It's a misconception that Toyotas are the best... in this category, they are not...

Chevy Cobalt, I drove one to SF from LA, very good small size sedan. Ride is very solid, good acceleration and it has good control. My only complaint is the brake paddle spacing is kind of unusally high compare to the gas paddle... With GM's recent 100,000 mile warranty, it's diffinitely a better choice than the Corolla.

But my first choice would be the Honda Civic: Better perfomance, design (both exterior and interior) and POWER.

I never liked any of the Corollas. Sure they're reliable but they are also so basic. I'd at least upgrade to a Camry if I were to buy one. There isn't any problems with the Corolla so don't get me wrong, I just don't like them very much.

the toyota corolla is probably the best bang for the buck commuter in the automotive history. it's a gas miser, it doesnt break, it retains its value, it has cheap insurance.
i'd take a million recalls over a dead chevy and ford in the middle of the road. and i'd pay a couple of thousand more for a toyota over the RATTLES OF A CHEVY.

the 2007 like all the other corollas are good for safety and reliability. they don't have too many fancy options but they are still good cars

They are very reliable and safe, but it's not really comfortable w/ the cloth seats.
