ok. a little sugar is fine. too much sugar is bad for you because your body very quickly changes it into energy, and if you aren't doing enough to use that energy (exercising, walking, running around, etc) all the unused energy will be stored as fat. The same is true of other simple carbohydrates like white bread, bleached white flour, potatoes, natural sugars, etc. They all get changed into energy fast.
things like lean protein and complex carbs like whole grains take longer for your body to break down and turn into energy, so you have more time to use the erergy before it gets turned into fat for storage.
That's why it's important to make healthy choices when you eat, and also to be as active as possible.
the person who said it 'makes sense' that sugar isn't bad for you is just dumb and wants to eat whatever without caring.
and yes, a diet high in sugar also hurts your teeth.

Sugar is not bad for you. Over intake of anything is bad for you, which is bane of most Americans. That and little to no exercise. Contrary to popular belief, sugar does not cause diabetes.

I heard a long time ago this answer & even though surprising it makes sense. Sugar is not bad for you (with the exception of obesity, & diabetes). The only real health issue is tooth decay!

sugar in it original form is not bad for you ( in moderation) it all of the additives and things we do to it before it gets to or table that cause it to do all the horrible things we know about, tooth decay and debates. Sugar from straight from the cane in its liquid for is actually good for you and can be good for your teeth cause it cleans them as you chew.

i googled this exact question because i thought it would be really interesting to see how many different schools of thought there would be on this question.
the result? there are a bizillion! some say it's horrible, some say it's not bad in itself but can be depending on how it's used and some say it is equal to heroin in terms of production and addictive effect.
check out the links below... it's unreal!!!

because your body only absorbs so much sugar, so after that the sugar gets stored in fat cells, the fat cells grow larger, then you get fatter.
