Insecurity?
Boredom?
If god can do anything, then he could have made it impossible for us to go through the misery that we do. The only one that would have known the difference is him.
In my mind, if there is a god, then he either doesn't pay attention to the lives of his creations.. or he isn't omnipotent.

Do you need love?... if you do not then you can do with out God... so don't worry about it......... every normal human being craves love.... mankind was made in God's image... God is an intelligent being... The Intelligent Being... God is The source of Love... Those of The True Christian Faith Know that God exists for an absolute certainty. With this knowledge comes a limited understanding of God. Part of the understanding is knowing His Love... We Love God because be first loved us... God's love is beyond full comprehension by mankind......God is The Creator of all that mankind knows and can hope to know... as the creator, of mankind, God is The Father of all... mankind belongs to God... but in a greater sense we are His children... The Father Loves His children.

What I wonder is why all the pro-religious answers miss your point altogether.
First, there are the guys who think God is like a "father" who deserves the love of his "children." I have 5 children. While I certainly want the love of all of them, I cannot conceive of the kind of insanity that would impel me to punish them with eternal pain for not doing so. In fact, I know my love for them would survive even if they actually hated me. And I want to say something to those who are parents and agree that children must be punished with eternal hell for not loving their parents: GET SOME HELP!
As to those who quote this or that bit of scripture, all you did was dance around the problem. To say: "He wants it that way" is to say you don't have an answer. The question was WHY does God want it this way.
My answer is that the God of the Abrahamic religions was fashioned after the typical desert tyrant (surprise!). This is why so much of his "mandate" oozes with vanity, insecurity, and cruel ruthlessness.

What intelligent being doesn't want to be loved. Does God need us, of course He created us for Himself not for us. But what was he thinking? It's not so he could receive love and worship from us but so that He would have someone to love. That is what it's all about for God. He loves us, He shows us this love through His Son Christ Jesus. God created us for fellowship. When we choose to love Him and worship Him it does a couple of things: 1) we "back satan up" - meaning he can't stand the atmosphere of true praise and worship and 2) it provides an avenue that changes our focus from ourselves to the One who is all Power, all Authority, all Goodness and all Love. Makes our puny little problems look awfully small in comparison. God says He inhabits the praises of His people - so where God is - problems aren't. We get the benefit, He gets the glory (acknowledgment of His worth as God). For He alone IS worthy.

Because 'mankind' told us all what 'god' wanted, all religious 'bibles' / books / etc - have all been written by MAN, not gods or messiahs. Religion has for centuries been used a tool to control, abuse and torment. To perpetuate and continue the culture of fear, the hatred, the intolerance and the wars!
Far too much blood has been spilled in the name of 'religion'.
If a 'God' really existed, surely a 'god' would have sorted this vile mess out by now, and how come in the 'Bible's' there are MIRACLES a plenty - but we have not seen one for ooh how long?? CENTURIES AND CENTURIES!!
so those who believe, let them, it is their belief - as long as they tolerate and understand other faiths and do not wish harm on others, for not agreeing with them. But as long as we have fanatics, zealots and televangelists on this earth, of any religion - there will always be intolerance, anger, misunderstanding and hatred.

That's a good point, But actually, you're missing the main point, is that "God" is an entirely man made creation. We made God, not the other way around, to explain what we couldn't understand or explain. You're going to find people believing in all sorts of things; you may as well give up on finding any consensus. Especially when you can make up any story you want to, and call it "THE TRUTH"; what a bunch of crap.

There is no need involved in this at all. Before time, before the Universe was created, God dwelt in perfect tri-unity with the Son and the Holy Spirit. For reasons known only to God, he created angels, and us. He need not have.
We are created in his image, and our innermost being yearns to be at one with God. That is why the 1st shorter catechism of the Westminster Confession of Faith says, "What is man's chief end? Man's chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy him forever." We are only complete as human beings when we are in spiritual harmony with our Creator. That completeness is the agape love spoken of in the Bible. It is a unique love, way above any feelings or emotions we normally equate with love. This love seeks the eternal good of the other. That is the triune love shared between Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and God reveals his triunity to those who earnestly seek him. Adoration is the only fitting response at this awesome revelation of our Creator.

God made us in His image. (Genesis 1:26) This is not in a physical way, but rather we display the same qualities He does. This includes love, justice and wisdom. Do you want your children to love you? So does God. Do you want your children to obey you? So does God. Do you want your children to be thankful for everything you do for them? So does God. It's just that in the case of God, it's in the form of worship.

God is actual, is God one that acknowledges that of prepared faith? i think of that God is often around me, yet how can it is around me, taking my prayers, mutually as additionally around all others? i'm not particular, I have no particular award, no golden glow, not something which makes me any distinctive from every person else. i ought to have extra and on a similar time under others. So why would I determine that there is an ever understanding life prevalent to all in basic terms as God? it is what i've got confidence as quickly as I awaken and wipe the dry from my eyes, it is what i've got confidence whilst i've got confidence a breeze on my shoulder, it is the glisten I see in my niece's eyes whilst she laughs, it is not a question of if there's a God. Many will say which you would be able to worship in a "Church", yet i'm against them, and experience that God would not ask that of me. you in basic terms could carry on with the handbook traces, that are that of consent. do not homicide. do not Rape. do not thieve. as properly that, do what you like, and if i'm incorrect, you do not hassle me. it is lots extra advantageous than i can assert in a small submit, whether it is particularly straight forward and likely a non secular historical past will branch those 3 out right into a civil society, yet till extra anybody is attentive to it, and end in basic terms questioning that religious human beings screw boys, or blow up homes, we can continuously have issues. i'd particularly see human beings conceal their ideals than them taken as terrible issues. i don't conceal mine on objective, I save them interior my shirt (on the fringe of my coronary heart) reason i'm not faking it, I have no could parade my ideals around, i'm no preacher. i've got confidence what I do, and others are loose to do a similar. He doesn't need our worship, but He wants it. He wants it because it is a part of our relationship with Him. The thing is, once a person gets to know Him, it isn't difficult to love and worship Him. He really is "all that".
