Hi!
It is common for gas stations to put $10-20 on hold when you make a purchase there. There is nothing wrong with the card...it's just they tried to preauthurize more than what was on the card.

This reminds me of a person who learned this leasson that hard way..used a checkcard to buy something small..I forget what..candy bar maybe...and they put $20 on hold in his checking account that then caused three small checks to bounce.

YEP the other poster is correct.
The gas companies usually HOLD money to make sure that the money is there. I got a gift card from sprint ($25.00 to refer a friend) and I ended up having to go to walmart and buy a coke and a candy bar to get rid of the final $1.25 left on it)
take the card somplace where you can 'swipe' it yourself.
Walmart locally has a self service stand so does meijer.
Go to one of those places and get as close to $8.39 as you can.
you might end up having to give them $.15 cents or so but nothing more than that!
I have .72 cents on another one and you best believe that they wont get much more than a few cents out of that one either.

The card was expired???? Then that is why your card was denied!!!! What is a rebate card... is it like a gift card??. Because gift cards have a disclosure that says you cannot use gift cards for gas purchases. And you also have to remember ..... most gift cards have serv. fee that debit the account every month... I believe it is about a $1.50 to $2.00.... so that might be eating into your available balance.
