Is creatine dangerous?

The risks of creatine aren't well established, but there are enough unknowns to prompt some scientists to advise against its use. Taking supplements increases the concentration of creatine in the urine as much as 90-fold, and some experts worry that such a heavy load could be hard on the kidneys. Anyone with kidney disease or at high risk for kidney problems (such as diabetes patients) should skip creatine.

There may be other dangers as well. The Food and Drug Administration has received more than 30 complaints about creatine, including reports of seizures, irregular heartbeats, and even death. Users have also reported diarrhea, cramps, and stomach pains. There's no proof that creatine played a role in these problems, but experts are calling for studies to look into the long-term effects of the supplements.

Another concern, also unproven, is that using creatine could lead to dehydration. Most creatine products have labels that encourage users to drink extra water.

If you want to get big you need to pay close attention to the basic fundamentals of bodybuilding. Protein is the most basic nutrient for building muscle. It will build long lasting muscles. I take MASSTECH which is a weight gainer after each workout. On weekends I take MASSTECH and SIX STAR creatine. You need to drink lots of water when taking creatine or else you risk becoming dehydrated. I have read quite a bit about creatine and it is very good, but don't take it by itself. Protein is a mixture of many amino acids. Creatine is only one of them.

It's not a question of which is better, they do completely different things! Protein is made of amino acids. Amino acids are the basic building blocks of muscle. Therefore, protein is an essential ingredient for muscle building. You can't build muscle without it! You will want to take in about 1-2 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight. Creatine works very well for increasing muscle mass. it increases ATP (the main energy source muscles use for explosive power) availability so that you can perform more reps and sets and lift more weight, consequently growing more muscle tissue. Creatine should be cycled. for example... taking it for four weeks, followed by one to two weeks off.

Protein and Creatine are two different supplements. Proteins are the building blocks for muscles. They will help your body synthesize proteins and give your more muscle and also repair muscle you have damaged while lifting.

Creatine helps give you an extra energy boost while performing explosive short range exercises like squats and bench presses. It will inject more water into your muscles making them appear bigger, but smoother. It will also speed up the recovery time between workouts.

I would suggest that if you are trying to decide which to take, take the protein. The creatine is good for off-season workouts, but do not supplement creatine for protein.

protein and creatine are totally different supplements. protein provides amino acids which are the basic building blocks of muscle tissue. creatine increases stores of ATP which is the cellular energy source responsible for muscular contractions. and creatine does increase cellular hydration, this is actually a benefit and not a side-effect as most people think. with increased cellular hydration the anabolic environment in the muscle cells also increases.

creatine is better for building muscle becauses it heals muscles quicker, thus building muscle faster. It does fill the muscles with water giving you a bigger appearance, but if you take protein with creatine your muscles become solid. There is a new form of creatine, I'm not sure of the name, but I've heard it completely eliminates the problem. Protein on the other hand is a more natural way of building muscle, you build less but there is no risk involved.
