If anyone in the New York City area can recommend a few good Chinese places they've been to, I'd be grateful! I'm not looking for a noodle shop, korean, vietnamese or anything like that.. just traditional Chinese fairly priced with a good reputation from the locals of NYC. :)

These are my favorites:
Fuleen Seafood, 11 Division Street (lunch prices are great )- portions are big and the shrimp dishes - ummm
Sunrise 27, 27 Division Street, I especially love their fried squid, but all the fish dishes are wonderful
NY Noodletown, 28 1/2 Bowery, small, drab, crowded - the food here is awesome
Shanghai Cuisine, 89 Bayard Street - really good Shanghai food
NOTE: I live in New York and I would not recommend a restaurant I have not frequented. I ate at Chinatown Brasserie - it isn't in Chinatown, it isn't authentic Chinese food, it is grossly overpriced ($7 for an egg roll; $48 for Peking Duck) the food is awful and the service was bad. Read what other diners have to say.

Well, we do have one of the larger Chinatowns, so that is certainly where to head. It is an experience in itself, and should not be missed. I would say the best restaurant down there is called something like the Crystal Pavillion. It's been awhile, but I know it's off of Confusus Square, in a sort of shopping center, up an escalator. After dinner the wonderful thing to do is to stop off at one of the many bakeries that they have and try some of the great desserts that most people don't really know about. There are also some wonderful small restaurants on East Broadway that are not that well known. I would say, if you see a lot of Chinese people in a restaurant you know it's a good one. The restaurants will not be expensive down there, and will range from old fashioned simple chinese to spicy unusual food. You can get to Chinatown by Subway or cab. And while you are down there you can also have a look at Little Italy.

SUSHI! I usually judge chinese restaurants by the clients. If i see allot of other chinese people there, I will usually like the food.
