They have to learn to grow up sometime. You can't keep them children all their life. How else will they learn? This is kind of a dumb question, don't you think?

It's called letting them have independence. A group of 15-16 year olds don't need an adult to supervise them. Most parents I know start allowing 12-13 year old to start going to the movies without an adult.

After you have taught your children right from wrong and given them your love, trust and taught them to have a relationship with Jesus, you must gradually let them venture out with out you.

If they messup, then they must suffer the consequences. I will tell you about my daughter's mess up.

She and a group of friends, all about 14, decided to have a party in a vacant house down the street from us. This house was for sale and on the market. It was a new house. Well, as you can imagine, the kids messed it up. They got caught.

The other parents wanted to hire a lawyer for their kids. My husband and I said no. She did the crime so, she should do the time. It turned out that the builder of the home had a talk with them and forgave them. But my daughter had to worry about the outcome of her mistake for a few weeks. She was careful about her choices after that.

Now that she owns property, she understands and is sorry for what she did.

Independence. Mommy and Daddy aren't going to be around forever. Kids need to learn how to deal with things for themselves. My parents are very controlling and don't get that I need independence. They tried to pick all of my high school classes for me! And there is a fine line between being underprotective and letting your kids be independent.

First you wonder why parents are doing so much to control their childrens' lives by making them bathe, brush teeth, wear clothes their parents picked out & bought for them, etc. And now you're wondering why we don't control them as much as they get older?
