In bed by 8pm, summer or winter. ALL right when you are 5 or six, a real bummer when you are 12, all the neighbour's kids are out playing, the sun is shining until 10pm, and you have a cranky mother downstairs

I was never allowed to talk when the NEWS was on! When I graduated from high school, I had to get a job where my Dad worked. I wasn't allowed in a room alone with my boyfriends without my parents checking every ten minutes to see what was going on. I wasn't allowed to get a car while I lived at home, so I had to wait till I got married. We will never forget all of the rules I'm sure even though they are all different for each of us!

Most of the craziest rules that my mother and father had while I was growing up dealt with sex.

In our household, sex was not to be discussed at any time. Any lewd images (photos, movies, dirty joke books, cd's) were not allowed and no mention of the subject ever came up.

The consequences of this was that I was drawn ever more to the subject, and wound up a teen father. My parents were devastated by this, however, in attending therapy, learned that had they been more open with me about the subject, my mistakes probably could have been prevented.

They now do a better job of it with my brother, who is 16.

My mum said that I couldn't pluck my eyebrows until I was 16. Well I said, to hell with that and I plucked them anyway when I was 13. She didn't notice for ages but then when she did she was annoyed at me but it already became obvious to her that I was growing into a rebellious teen. I mean, it's only a bit of hair, it was a completely ridiculous rule and I didn't want to spend my years in highschool looking like a hairy yeti monster. Can you imagine what the school photos would look like?!

I wasn't aloud to speak to adults until they spoke to me first. The only trouble was no one ever talked to me because they never liked the answers or embarrassing questions I always asked.
I used to do it for devilment really.
One day a friend of my mum visited and she asked me if i would like to give her a kiss, I said no because your ugly and got a moustache.
My mum never saw her friend again and i thought I was going to get a belting.
When my dad arrived home from work mum told him all and my dad marched me out into the garden screaming and shouting.
When we got outside I was expecting a good belting but instead he told me he was only pretending to be angry and that I had done him a favour because he couldn't stand my mums friend either and he even gave me some money to buy sweats with.
Mind mum kept her friends at arms distance after that `I WONDER WHY`!
All the best,
Andrew D

This is our house you obey our rules....which was fine, but once i reached 18 they thought they could still instill those rules and i still had to be home by 11pm. I was working full time and paying a 3rd of my wages in rent per month (£100). I stayed at home until for another 7 months and moved out to a flat with my then boyfriend/husband/ex husband....i never moved bck home!

I didn't have any that I thought were crazy. I had boundaries outlined by major streets in my neighborhood but that what plenty of space to play and explore. It was a couple miles wide.
