Yes
although dogs cannot see 2D images, the TV is alight source rather than just being an image.
The dog can see the pattern of light in the same way we see it!

So yes the dog can see what is on TV

Of course they can see what is on TV. My mom's dog loves the Dog Whisperer, and goes nuts watching it with his front paws propped up on the TV stand. There are videos out there specifically made for dogs' and cats' enjoyment. Check Petsmart or even Ebay if you're interested.

Dogs do see television. My American Bulldog loves to sit with me in the evenings and she really watches whatever I'm watching. It has been said that dogs see flickering light better than humans do, therefore it is thought that they see a series of moving frames rather than a continuous scene.

My pup even starts shaking during scary movies, so I have to limit what she watches. It's amazing the range of emotion they can feel.

Hi! dogs see in various shades of gray so it is most likely that your dog is seeing the tv shows in the same way as when you watch on a black and white tv.

Yes they can and contrary to some statements on here dogs do not see in black and white that is NOT what the phrase color-blind means.. the term for seeing in black and white is monochromacy. Dogs see more like a red/green color blind human and they can actually see shades of grey better than we can and they can also detect movement better than we can. When a dog watches tv they see each individual frame rather than a smooth picture like we do, in fact they can see the movement better than we can, but we can see colors that they cannot such as red and green.. However a dog can still see and recognize the shape and movement of other animals on tv and react accordingly.. my dog watches tv alot especially nature shows, I also have a tape of wild america that my cats love because it has lots of rodents on it..

Excerpt...
When we watch television, we see a continuous picture, although we know it is made up of a series of frames following each other in rapid succession. A dog can clearly distinguish each individual frame.

The retina is the part of the eye that does the actual seeing. It lines the back of the inside of the eyeball and detects the light that enters through the lens, which is at the front of the eyeball. The retina is made up of two types of light sensitive cells - rods and cones. Rods detect movement and, being sensitive to very small amount of light, are important for seeing in dark conditions. Cones ‘see’ colour and involved with detailed sight. Because the dogs’ retina has a very high proportion of rods, they see better in the dark and can detect movement more finely than we can. However, dogs have only about one tenth the human number of cones, and do not see colours as well as us. They are able to see shades of gray very well as it is rods which do the work in this case.
Dogs are a bit like a colour-blind human. People who can see the full range of colours are said to have trichromatic vision; that is they can distinguish three colours of light. In the way that all colours of paint can be mixed from the three primary colours, being trichromatic means we can ‘mix’ the light colours we see to get the full range of colours. Red/green colour blindness is the most common form of colour blindness in humans. Those affected are dichromatic and only perceive two light colours. Dogs are dichromatic and can distinguish only two colours: blue and yellow. They are unable to recognize green, orange or red. http://www.50connect.co.uk/index.asp?main=http%3A//www.50connect.co.uk/50c/articlepages/pets_index.asp%3Fsc%3Ddogs%26aID%3D4184

Definitely sometimes - when dogs were on the TV, our dog used to run round the back to see where they were going! Bless.

Yes. I once knew a dog that would rush to the TV every time "Animal Hospital" was on.

Scientist would have you beleive that dogs and cats can only see 3D objects.
But I have had dogs all my life and beleive this is not the case.

Some dogs and cats will only watch certain programs ignoring others completely

I wonder how much the scientists got paid for that study. Too much Obviously
