I will be getting extensions this weekend. Does any one have any experience with extensions? Good? Bad? How do you take care of them?

I will not be getting them weaved or braided in. I'm getting them glued.

I wore extensions for a few years and had both good and bad experiences. There are a few factors to consider: 1) Type of extensions, 2) Quality of extension hair, 3) Experience of your hairdresser, and 4) Are you willing to spend the extra time to take care of them?

I always wore the glued in type, as they always looked much more natural in my opinion. BUT, if your hairdresser does not know how to put the glue in properly, you may find yourself in an embarrassing situation when they "slide out" and fall in your lap. Make sure you know plenty of people who have used this hairdresser before and are happy with them.

I think the most common mistake I've seen women make when putting in extensions is opting for the less expensive wefts of hair. Quality hair makes ALL the difference in how long they will last and how realistic they will look. Don't scrimp! There is a wonderful company that ships from Italy (my apologies for forgetting the name). If your hairdresser can get it, it's so worth the extra cost, and will pay for itself by not needed to replaced as quickly.

Keep your extensions free from oils and heavy conditioners. These can make them slide and come out. A good conditioner is needed, but keep it away from your roots. You may have to experiment with different conditioners to see which one works best with this new hair. Remember, this was once someone else's hair, and she may have had completely different needs for hers. Also, this new hair has been through processing to achieve the color, so it may be very dry.

Tip: Keep your hair in a loose braid at night to keep it from tangling or coming out when you roll on it.

Also, expect some shedding. That is normal.

Lastly, I'd like to suggest that you give your hair breaks in between extension periods. When you take them out, leave them out for a while before putting them back in. If you don't, you may find your own hair MUCH, MUCH thinner when you finally decide to remove them all together. TRUST ME, it's NOT pretty. If you still want that long look, try a clip in pony tail or hair piece during the inbetween time.

GOOD LUCK! I hope you love them! :)

yes I have extentions in my hair right now. Thier not bad at all. Well, once you get use to them. Its just weave, and weave gives u lenghth, and helps your real hair become longer, and grow thicker. But that only depends on how long you keep them in. I kept mines in for like 4 weeks now, and its still looking neat and shiny.Thats becuase I wear a scarf at night. There okay, but when that person or hairdresser puts them in, at the beginnig of the braid it has a knot. If u don't want that knot at the beginning of the braid, then just tell that person. You'll be okay, they look pretty when thier done right and nicely. I didn't want anyone to know I had weave in my hair, so I wore it in a bun, and wore a head band, and no one notice.

I use to wear extentions and its a good idea if you want your hair to grow faster especially if it tends to break easily. Extentions is a great way to rest from harsh chemicals and products that you use everyday... You usually tend to leave extensions in for like 3-4 months (if its the braided type) If your extensions are like a weave type then you leave i tin for like 1-2 months. You should wash your hair every 2 weekends or everyweekend. But usually every 2 the first couple of weeks because you dont want it to add presure to your hair which will break it. After that you can wash ti as many times as you want. Extentions are excellent way to keep your hair in good conditon. IT also prevents your ends from breaking. In the past i wore extensions like all the time after a while i stoped because my hair was the length where i wanted it which was below my sholders and i love it! Always remember once you get the length you want to regulary trim your ends (nautraul hair that is)
