Ok my wife is about 3 months pregnant. We have two small dogs that were her dogs before we got together and we have one large german shepard that we bought as our first pet. He sheds non stop and since she has found out that she is pregnant, the dog hair really seems to bother her. She freaks out if she finds hair on the couch or if she sits in the floor and when she gets up and has dog hair on her. He is a completely inside dog and this has never been a problem before. She is worried about what she is going to do with all the hair once the baby is here. Any advice on how to keep the dog hair down? She is always cleaning and vacumming but she is never happy enough.

Im pregnant, 8 months now. I have 7 dogs and they ALLLLL shed. I also have 4 cats, 2 guinea pigs, and 1 rabbit, in my house, There is no getting around it. When i was first pregnant I was freaking out about it too. before my baby i was a clean freak, I am worse now. I would get stressed out about everything. My boyfriend was going bonkers trying to brush them out more and doing more to satisfy me. I would cry uncontrollably if my black pants looked like a lint roller. I talked to my doctor she said the hair is not going to hurt me or the baby if it didnt do that before. He told me that if I dont want the hair around the baby to make the babies room dog free. Not allow the animals into that room. He also told me at that early stage, 3 months, a woman is ALL HORMONES. This freak out is very likely just her body going coocoo over all thats going on. She needs to calm down a little and think of the pets feelings. She loves her pets its just the hair she hates. You can do the brushing outside and get them on a good diet, add some eggs and cod liver oils, or virgin olive oil to the food, this helps the coats stay healthier. Take them outside daily, brush them outside or in the garage, fluff there hair and then wipe them down with a slightly dampened towel. It will help with the fluff. Though assure her that hair will always be a part of your life, she need to get used to it.

Well I am pregnant and have a few pets. My one cat sheds terrible. I sweep and mop and a few hours later I am picking up cat hair again in clumps. The thing when you are pregnant is that you are irritable. EVERUYTHING bugs you. My pets irriate me and I used to adore them. As for the baby, I am not worried about the hair. I am going to keep the cat out of the baby play pen and items but by the time baby is crawling or sitting, the pets will be used to him/her. And he will have a strong immune system (the more people and pets a child is exposed too, the stronger their immune system has the opportunity to build). The thing is EVERYTHING goes in a babies mouth and pet hair will get in his mouth... Any cloth toys I will wash more often... and during 'floor time' when an infant...I will put him on a blanket on the floor... Thank god we have laminate.. rugs hold germs, pet hair, and are just gross with everything they pick up. I am not worried about the cat hair. He will eat a tiny amount I am sure, but they eat dirt and anything around... and my cat is very clean and totally indoors. When the baby starts walking and touching things like the couch that attracks cat hair I will daily use a roll brush over the couches, beds, etc. My cat sheds. I love my cat. I love my soon to come baby. They will co exsist just fine

There are a few things you can do.

Find a groomer who knows methods to reduce shedding is your first - generally more exspensive option.

Next, there is a product called Furminator. They make a special comb and shampoo to help dogs with shedding. It will take you several hours to remove the undercoat but once this process is done if you keep on top of it weekly the shedding should be greatly reduced.

Also just a daily brushing outside will help the dog remove the leftover undercoat that is loose and therefore he won't be shedding on your furniture.

I've used the furminator tool before and I can say I'm personally very impressed by it. I've used it on my dogs and they like it and I like that they don't shed as much!

I have had numerous dogs when I was pregnant and ever since my son was born.
The hair is NOT, repeat, NOT a problem with children.
If you child is exposed to pets at a young age, the child is more likely to have NO allergie to pets.
Plus interaction between child and pet (of course supervised) will teach both how to react to each other.
Being the dogs were there first, they will become EXTREMELY protective of your child.

As my wise mother used to say.....you have to eat a pound of dirt before you die!

I am also allergic to dogs and cats but I have two dogs and used to have two cats. You can take singular during pregnancy, I know because I take it and when I was pregnant my doctor told me it was safe. Just have her talk to the doc. Singular relieves indoor allergies such as pet dander, dust, smoke and out door allergies such as pollen, ragweed, mold...

Actually, dog hair isn't a probelm. Studies have proven that babies who are exposed to animals are less likely to deveope allergies. The only thing I know you have to watch is cat feces, as it carries toxoplasmosis, which causes birth defects.

have the dog be an outside dog. and as for her two doggies, put them away in a room, away from your wife. (you should probably help her clean up)
