I moved to town a year ago and I was trying to make it work with my dog, but it isn't working too well. there are other circumstances also on top of him being a really big dog and a huskey (not the apartment type). I put a ad in the paper for him trying to find a family with kids and land. I have been getting calls and sounds like Tuesday I am going to meet this woman who sounds like she has a great home lined up for him. The only thing though is I am scared. I have been with the dog for 7 years and I am not happy that I have to do this. I don't know how to cope. How do you just hand over your pet, it is very upseting but inside I know its better for the quality of life for the dog. Can you give me some advice?

I also have a husky and as much as you would love to keep her its sounds like you will have to let her go. Try to meet with the lady at her house so you can see your baby's new home it may be one of those places you always dreamed you could have.I know its hard just make sure you make the best pick for your dog. I wouldn't do visitation it may be too hard on you both and uncomfortable for her new family.Good Luck you are doing the right thing.

If this lady takes your dog...or for that matter, when you find the right person to take the dog...it should be someone who loves animals and understands your feelings for your pet. You might ask the new owner about you visiting the dog..at least for a while. That way you can be rest assured that he is getting a good home. It's hard to have to give up a pet...but it's a brave and right thing to do when you know circumstances won't let you keep the pet. Some people would just let the animal loose on an open field and leave it...the fact that you want to find the right home shows you have a good heart.

Just think of how happy the dog will be and maybe you could even set up times for you to walk the dog as a favor to the new owner or ask if you could take care of the dog while she is on vacation or go for visits and decrease your visits until you are able to cope, but don't interfere with the person's life

Can you get visitation? It would probably help you and your dog make the transition and if the new home isn't working out, you'll know and can intervene.

I feel for you, I would just die if I couldnt keep my dog. I would definately try to see if you can set up visitation I think it would be good for you and good for the dog so he wouldnt feel abandoned. Good luck
