"Pleasant" for whom, Maurice?

Pleasant for the believers, not so pleasant for the "infidels" in the next county who are hated and abhorred and persecuted by those believers.

I do not agree that unity *is* a good thing. People who unite for a common cause are a power to be reckoned with, indeed. That power can be used to wage war and commit genocide as well as clothe the naked and feed the hungry.

Yeah, well I vote that the smart people be in charge of figuring out which faiths are good and pleasant because Maurice, your's would be the first to go!

You know, different people have different ways at looking at the world. That's how it should be. I would hate to have a void of sameness were everyone believed the same thing.

The only "false faith" is the one were the person is professing to believe in something that they don't actually believe in.

put a hundred different believers from ten different faiths in a room for a year to try and work out their differences. at the end of the year you would still have a hundred believers but you have a hundred different faiths. the history of dogmatic faith is a history of fragmentation and atomisation. Constantine put his weight behind Christianity because he thought it would help unify the roman empire. he was soon disappointed, the orthodoxy which he hoped to establish soon broke down as the bishops and patriarchs created factions arguing about obscure metaphysical theological dogma. all dogmatic believes, religious, political and philosophical only lead to division. faith can never be moved by reason so it will never lead to unity. please read the history of the byzantine empire and you will see this in action.

There are many people and churches trying to do this. The question where people differ, is how much are we willing to sacrifice for unity?
My church is currently trying to merge with another and you would be surprised at how things many regard as trivial turn into big issues

Most of the churches have already decided who they believe are true believers and who the pretenders are. It is impossible to be united with unbelievers.

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord's table and the table of demons. -1 Corinthians 10:21

There is no way to prove or figure out which faiths are truly real because faith isn't based on any type of proof. Faith is based on subjective experiences, assumptions and wishful thinking, and that's they way people like it so they can contort and mold their beliefs to whatever serves them best. People could never unite under religion or faith.

If everybody would agree with me, there would be no problem.
If 3 people were stranded on an island, they would probably form 4 political parties and 5 religions.

Most seem to want their version of unity.... One world, all Christian, or all Muslim, or all one "race" is unity, but others prefer the idea of variety, oora choice.. choice means accepting others differences, and many people won't do that..
