I had to crush cat's pill into tuna in order for her to take it. I've heard that giving tuna here and there as a treat is okay, but not too often. She has to take this medicine three times a day for thirty days, should tuna be okay? its not even a whole spoonful at a time. Has anyone else had to do this with their cat?

the vet did tell me last night it was okay to crush these type of pills, however, I didn't even think about asking into what until this morning when I started doing a little research. So yes, they're not toxic. Thank you for asking though :)

As someone who has volunteered in vet. hospitals for almost five years, I promise you that this method of dispensing your kitty's meds is just fine! (And easier for her and you). You're right! You do not want to over-do it; however, the way that you are describing this indicates that you are doing everything above-board.
I wish your cat a full, fast, and easy recovery!

If your cat can tolerate the tuna there is nothing wrong with giving it tuna. My cat is on lasix for congestive heart failure and has to have half a pill crushed twice a day. I asked the vet if I could give it to him in his food and the answer was yes because it's alot harder to give it to them by making them swallow it whole. My cat has actually gained weight since he has been sick. We told the vet that he has always eaten just about everything we eat like fish, chicken, beef, donuts and he drinks milk. The vet said whatever he will eat as long as he eats is fine. My cat is 26 years old!!

I think that this would be okay, but try giving it to her in another sticky substance such as cream cheese, or some cats like peanut butter. The only problem that I foresee is your cat not getting all of her pill and leaving some on the spoon. If you use cream cheese, the crushed-up pill will stick better and it is more likely that she will get all of her pill. Good luck!

Given how hard it can be to get a cat to take its medication, especially in pill form (yeah, I know they say it's good to force it down its throat, but cats that I've tried that with a. bite, b. spit out the pill, and c. pretend to swallow the pill and then spit it out. (no, I am not making this up). Giving your cat so much tuna may be a bit unhealthy for it, but it's probably a lot better than not giving it its medication, because chances are you'll probably be unable to otherwise.

Since you are able to get the liquid antibiotic into your cat without a problem I would consider crushing the steroid pill into a small amount of water and using a syringe to flush the mixture into the back of your cats mouth. Definitely wrap the towel around the body and legs of your cat and be sure you have it tight enough so he can't get out. Watch your hands / fingers cats have a way of still biting even in this position. Remember you cat is only trying to protect himself so don't get mad or uptight about this. I'm always sure to do something to my kitty after a treatment to help them feel okay with me touching them. Whether it be a treat, a game, stroking him or praising him. Do something so it seems okay. Hope this helps

The best way to give a cat a pill:
Grab by scruff of neck, tilt her her head back. Poke pill in back of throat. Do it fast. Hold kitty until she swallows, maybe three seconds. Pet kitty say good girl. Let go of cat. Watch cat run. She comes back though.

Yes, I've had this problem. The only reason that it's not OK to feed your cat "people food" is that the cat food that is made for them has special vitamins and minerals that help them digest food. If that is the only way to get her to take her medicine, go for it. I would just make sure that she is still eating her regular food too. I don't think a tiny bit like that will hurt her.

Tuna for human consumption is not good to give a cat ...disrupts vitamin absorption and fat production...find a different medium to mix with....and you can buy a pill plunger which I've used....works well...no crushing....

yes, tuna is fine, just split the can in thirds and give your cat the pill mixed in it.

Does your cat also like cream cheese? Whenever I have to give mine a pill, I cut it into small pieces which I then hide inside small pieces of cream cheese. Cats find it difficult to spit this out, .
