We set the date about a year after our engagement. The date we picked is another year later. In other words, we will be getting married 2 yrs. after our engagement. Do what is best for you two. It's your life! Congrats!

I got engaged on December 28, so almost two months ago, and we just set a date yesterday. However, we're not getting married until the summer of 2009, so it wasn't crucial that we set our date just yet, but we figured we might as well (and everyone kept asking). Plus we'll have to start booking things this summer since it's a June wedding. A friend of mine got engaged about a year ago and they waited 8 months to set a date - they are getting married this October.

we set the date like a week after...we ended up changing it and getting married sooner. I see no point in getting engaged if your not going to set a date within a month. that just shows you arent really ready for marriage and so there is no point in getting engaged yet. some of my friends got engaged shortly after I got married and still havent set a date...and its been nearly 2 years. they dont even talk about marriage anymore. i think they just did it in the moment when weddings and other engagements were taking place and now have no desire to act on it.

We set the date within a few weeks, but my best friend has been engaged for over a year and still no date. Do what is best for you and your fiance. If you're not set on a date yet, don't worry about it. You'll get there.
Enjoy the engagement and enjoy each other.
Best of luck!

We got engaged about 4 months after we began dating. We set the date about 3-4 weeks after the engagment. We knew we wanted it to be after he finished grad school so he wouldn't have the stress of trying to finish up details of the wedding planning while also trying to finish final projects. After some discussion we set the date to be approximately 13 months after the engagement. We have now been happily married for 8 months. As I was writing this it just occured to me that it has been 8 months as of today:-)

We had the month before we were engaged. We had the actual date set within a couple weeks later. But it actually got pushed back a week due to our location being booked at that time.

We knew the date before we were engaged. We were wed seven years to the day we met.
Personally I don't consider it an "engagement" until you actually have a date to be married. That is an essential part of the definition of the word.
