Well, if he isn't getting treatment for it, he may not be the best boyfriend for you. Bipolar is a very serious illness, although I notice that milder and milder cases of it are now being diagnosed.

If he's getting treatment, and it works partially or works very well, here's some things he needs to worry about: keeping a routine schedule, eating regularly, getting exercise, getting counselling, avoiding major upsets as much as possible. How can you help with that? Don't be encouraging him to stay up all hours with you, make sure you stop and eat when you're out for the day, go for walks or skiing or something together. Don't trivialize what he is feeling or say that you understand, because you probably don't (feeling sad is not the same as depression).

Otherwise, he's just the same as anyone else. The bipolar shouldn't be a big issue, any more than if he had asthma or something.

Good luck!!

Just stay positive with him, don't give up!!! HE will go through mood swings, but being BI-POLAR takes someone strong to be there for him. Through good & bad times. Just try to stay positive that your'e always going to be there for him. If you truly love him, reassure him you will always be in his time of need.Good Luck to you both.

Encourage him to take his meds and love him as you would anyone else. At least his disorder explains his actions. Many others are wandering this Earth with issues just waiting to explode. We all have problems and still need people around us to love us no matter what. You'll figure it out someday.

Well, if he is under treatment and is fairly stable, no problem in sticking with him. If he is not on meds or is not stable, you may get hurt (mentally).
