My hands are bright red, and feel like sandpaper. When I use lotion, it makes the hands redder, and the skin softer for a very short period of time. If I use lotion, it burns terribly, but if I don't, my hands bleed! I need something that wont hurt, or make my hands red. Trust me, cherry red hands on olive arms AREN'T pretty!
Thanks!

I love Curel Ultra Healing lotion, available at any drugstore, and also the slightly more expensive but wonderful L'Occitane Hand Cream with 20% shea butter. Both have worked wonders on my hands when they looked and felt like yours (I have a job that requires frequent handwashing, and I live in a place known for harsh, dry winters). Neither leave you with greasy feeling hands.

It sounds pretty bad, I know the feeling when you say the lotion burns after putting it on. It is like it has gone under your skin.
Try using some Repcillin to get your hands back to normal (maybe use it once a day or every other day) then use lotion again. Repcillin is 100% natural and doesnt burn the skin like normal lotions. You can find it on eBay or at the yahoo store:

Best of luck

I learned an old and tried and true way for this problem. It's as easy as buying a jar of Vasoline (or any store brand Petroleum Jelly) and covering your hands with about a 16th of an inch with it. Do this at nighttime before you go to bed AND the key is to wear some comfortable gloves OVER your hands. This will give you at least 7 hours of a 'warm oil bath'. Wipe off residue in the morning and repeat as needed. Hope this helps.

There are ways to softened hard hands that is very cost effective...You can either rub a generous amount of honey every morning and leave for about 15-20 minutes or try to scrub soft tofu around 4-5 times a week...Your hand will be softer, smoother and rather puffier...

Eliminate dry hands and or dry skin on body from the inside out. Buy pure Aloe Vera gel (98% pure) at the health food store. Take 1-2 tablespoons internally each day. Consistency of gel takes some getting used to, but you can follow with a drink of water. You can buy Aloe Vera juice, but I prefer the gel.
Wash hands and dry until slightly damp. Skin absorbs best when damp. Apply pure aloe vera gel and rub in. Also good treatment for feet.
Wash and damp dry hands or feet, apply Bag Balm and massage in, cover hands and or feet with cotton gloves or cotton socks and leave on overnight.
Also could be helpful to take 1 T. olive oil or flax oil internally each day. Increase your water intake to several glasses a day.

I would suggest you use lotion. It worked for me. If only takes a few days depending on how sever the damage is. Any lotion will do.

Speak to your Dr. This is an actual skin condition and can be fixed with a particular prescription lotion. Also, try those paraffin wax baths - they truly do work!

Wash hands with hot and then cold water. Apply aloe vera gel
on them. At night put olive oil or bees wax on them.
Caramex chapstick is good also.
