Are you religious?
How far do you live from your parents?

The fifth commandment is: "Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee."

that is no true, It's a Vatican mud poster for the Atheist and non believers of dumb books. The pope who have three Cadillac cars and live in a $7000000 mansion throw some money to build dumb websites and mud slashes like that for non believers.

When you realise the truth of life you will become a atheist or a non believer automatically. But dumb spoon fed beliefs are not permanent. The spoonfed idiots will take care of the parents because only the reason " up their on the sky the god is watching you to find out what you are doing" only that reason but....for the nonbelievers or the atheist it's a rule come through their critical thinking.

I am very religious, but I live on other side of the USA from my parents. While the 5th commandment says to honor thy mother and father, the first commandment given by God to man was to multiply and replenish the Earth (Genesis 1:28). To do that, you must leave your parents and cleave unto your spouse (Genesis 2:24). And often, that means moving with your spouse to where they can get a better job to support the family, even if it means moving physically farther from ones parents.

Now, as for a closeness to my parents in relationship, we are very close. My parents fly out to see us at least 3x a year, and often fly us out a couple of times to their home, too. We talk on the phone at least 4x a week, and write emails daily. So while I'm not physically close to them, I consider us to have a very close relationship and am very respectful of them.

I'm and atheist--and honestly, I feel like I'm much closer to my parents. My Christian friends think is both "weird" and "cute" that I tell my mom and/or dad "I love you" when I get off the phone. I actually go to the movies, go shopping and whatnot with my parents. I love going on vacations with my family alone...I hardly ever get into fights with them. And I'm going to do my best to be like them when I have kids.

Edit: And, considering I'm still sixteen, I live with them. :)

I don't think being religious has anything to do with living close to your parents. Honoring your parents doesn't mean you have to live in a travel trailer in their back yard.
