We are supposed to be getting a puppy from a litter of chocolate labs. Unfortunately, they have come down with parvo at 5 weeks of age, assuming they survive, are there any long term health effects from parvo? It's not that the breeder was irresponsible. She works in a vet office and someone else brought in sick puppies and she inadvertently brought it home before they knew it was parvo.

I don't think there is any.We have two old dogs that had parvo when they were babies. One the female does not have a weak stomach but my 14 year old has always had a sensitive stomach.I don't know if its just genetics or the parvo. One of my dogs is 14 and the other11 years old and they both had parvo when they were young. They are both healthy considering what they went through.I would never turn a dog down because of illness .The dogs that start out hard in life are usually the fighters in life and end up being stronger and more appreciative.Good luck

parvo can be treated, and if the pups survive, they will be ok. Don't listen to the people saying the breeder is bad. parvo could have been picked up even while the breeder was out for a walk at the park. It is not caused due to negelect, as the only way to even get rid of it is to heavily bleach the whole area infected. So, if your little pup survives, it will be ok in the long run.

As far as I know, puppies that survive parvo live normally after recovering and there are no known long term effects. Hope your pup will survive it. If your pup is infected at that age it is highly likely that your pup will not survive without Vet treatment and even then there are risks that it will die.
If your puppy does survive though, it should be fine unless there is something unrelated wrong with it.

obviously that breeder is irresponsable because a responsable breeder wouldn't be having problems with parvo and i woundn't buy from them and by the way its better to adopt

If I were you I would pass this litter by. I would call a vet in your area and ask him or her this question.

It seems that the owner of this litter was not responsible in their care so I would tend to think they would not be the healthiest pups around.

None. As long as the puppy's are treated with anti biotics, they should recover fully and live long healthy lives.
