My daughter in law made a payment by phone for a bill to be paid from her husbands bank account , she gave the wrong account number on purpose. The payment was made out of a customers account in a town 60 miles away. It was traced back to her . Well the law came and arraingments were made and the money was paid back. Now the victim wants to press charges , what charges could be charged.

First of all she is an idiot. She didn't think they would trace it back to her when it was one of her bills that was paid? Depending on how the victim wants to handle it she could face felony charges but she will probably only face misdemeanor charges. The money being paid back doesn't mean she can't be charged. I would press charges against her to. Who knows how many times she's done this to other people. I hope she gets fired from her job if that is where she got the victim's information.

Fraud is a serious offense. Normally it's a Federal offense. The victim will win this case most of the time.

I say let her go to jail for a month and that might stop this unlawful behavior.

Well, theft for one - felony charges - probably a whole host of things.

What she did was commit fraud on the Bank and steal money from the customer....might as well have walked into the bank with a gun...

Sorry to be crude...but it could be up to £16,000 but she can clearly state that it was an accident.
