What CAN happen is that someone who has a very high tolerance to alcohol can become intoxicated (not wasted, just drunk) and slow down his/her consumption levels for the rest of the evening to the point of which they become MORE sober than they were before. This would be due to the body's ability to "catch up" in regards to the processing of the alcohol being consumed. A common instance I saw this in was during drinking games in college, someone could have 5-6 drinks in an hour (at 9pm), but slow down to 1 an hour after the game is over(from 10-2am), and claim to have drank themselves sober. The illusion of drinking yourself sober is there, but in reality you just gave your body a chance to process all the booze. I have never heard of someone keeping to the 5-6 drink an hour pace for an entire evening and becoming sober at the end. It's just physically impossible.

I have never drunk myself sober, but I have thought I was sober- mainly because everyone around me had also been drinking as long as I had.
Anecdotally, however, (despite having no scientific back up) I have been out on a night out and when entering a pub at about 7 a.m. with friends, one member of the group got asked to leave for being too drunk. He was the one who had not been drinking at all (although obviously there was an issue as he had come with us to the pub at 7 in the morning having not been out the night before) whereas myself and my girlfriend were left to continue drinking.

Perhaps everyone has moment of clarity following excessive consumption of alcohol which could be mistaken for sobriety?

The things that keep me sober when I'm out drinking is I eat loads of food, such as bread or pizza (you get the idea, something solid that will line the stomach), and I keep moving, in nightclubs I'm on the dance floor from the moment I arrive (in between drinks) and I dance myself sober. If this doesn't do it, drink loads of water, this will sober you up as it encourages your kidneys to filter alcohol out of the system, and besides the water dilutes the alcohol. Hope this helps

I am sure you are talking about drinking alcohol until you become re-sober. I am fairly sure that is impossible. I mean, if you drink until you are drunk, and then sip on one drink for 2 hours after you are drunk, then yeah. You've techniqally drunk yourself sober. Your body would probably just reject that amount of alcohol though and you would puke/sleep/use the bathroom.

NO, this is impossible it can never happen. You cannot drink yourself sober as the body must rid itself of the alcohol before you can sober up.

Sure you can. If you drink enough to kill yourself you wont be drunk anymore, you will be dead! Although I guess you wouldn't really be sober either....

I don't think so. If you continue drinking, and drinking, and drinking, you'll drink yourself into an alcoholic coma, and possibly even die. I've heard the expression too, but my cousin drank himself into an alcoholic coma .
