Ive been debating on whether to enlist into the Marines as 0331 (Machine Gunner) or to take a shot at Army Ranger. Im obviously not making a decision of the answers on this but I just want to see what other people besides the Recruiters say. Ive been to both, a Marnes and Army, recruiter and its about time I need to make a decision. Im leaning towards the Marines, because Hell; its the Marines, need I say more? But what does anyone else out there think?

If you want to be a dirty, nasty leg or a NAP, join the Marines.

If you want to be an elite member of the Paratrooper community, try to go Ranger.

Also keep in mind that there is a difference between being Ranger qualified and actually being in a Ranger unit. One is a school, the other is a way of life.

well Rangers are pretty bad *** they get to blow sh*t up and so do the Marines is all about what doctrine you want to follow the Marines are under the department of the Navy so you work with them and Marines are amphibous there main goal is to storm beaches and take over sea ports for the Navy to land supplies Marines are more of a shock troop they go in and secure an area for the Army to come in and push the attack inland (but all this is doctrine) now with the war on terror the Marines do more Army roles like occupation in Iraq

but as to which is more fighting capable Ranger or Marine they are equal they both can be sent anywhere in the world in 72hrs ready to fight. plus the Army gets a bigger defense budget so you will get newer weapons and equipment (usually)

now in training yes the Marines have a tougher boot camp but once you done with boot camp and your school of infantry training thats about as far training you can get in the Marines (they have others but not as many as the army) and the Army boot camp is tough and then after that you have to go complete the Ranger course and thats tougher than Marine boot camp

the Marines have to speak in Navy terms i.e. starboard, port, bulkhead, deck, topside, below instead of left, right, wall, floor, upstairs, downstairs

so its just what you want if you want to be amphibous storming beaches then Marines are you but if you want to do mainly ground assult and jumping out of helicoptors behind enemy lines then Army is you

here let me open your eyes...

I'm a 21B in the army. a combat engineer, i'm not a ranger, however, my CO and XO are. quite frankly there ain't **** special about them. You sound like a guy that wants to do a lot of high speed training and baiscly be GI Joe. If you truely want that then here is my advice. Enlist Army(i honestly only say this because i kinda know how they work) get Airborne, Ranger, Air Assault, and anyother hi speed speed schools in your contract. Don't listen to the recruiter or the dudes at MEPS it is possible to have it in your contract. Once you get done with basic and all your schools and get to your duty station see a Special Forces recruiter(you might be able to have this in your contract too i'm not sure). What this does is 1.) it gives you 2 of the possible 4 special skills tabs(ranger and SF) which will get you promoted fast as hell 2.) SF deployments are 3-4 months typically but you get paid for 6, regular army is 12 months 3.) if you get out the SF qualification pays big in the civilian world.

But truth be told if you're nelisting to go to Iraq and kill someone you;re about 3 years too late. We're after the Iraqis "hearts and minds" not out to kill. stay a civilian, serving really ain't worth it.

If you want credit for everything go with the marines. But if you want to serve in a good orginazation that doesn't get as much credit as they deserve go with the Army rangers. ARMY ALLTHE WAY. The rangers are top shelf
