Well since you didn't say what it was you are addicted to, I suggest simply trying to focus your attention on something or someone else. Everytime you feel you need to go back, just go out for a jog. And don't come back until the feeling disappears. Train yourself to hate the object of your addiction, tell yourself that it isn't good for you, because if your addicted to anything; it can't be that good. Get a girlfriend/boyfriend. Call her/him whenever you feel the need to back. Talk to yourself, and coach yourself not to go back. And everytime you don't back, reward yourself with something nice. Go see a movie, eat something sweet, anything you like, JUST NOT YOUR ADDICTION. You will find yourself looking forward to these daily rewards and soon you won't think about the addiction any longer. Hope this helped, Good luck!

You really must replace your addiction with a different "addiction", for example everytime you feel the urge to seek out "whatever" call a friend, go for a walk, chew a piece of gum, anything enjoyable to keep you busy until the urge passes. Be aware of what your triggers are and avoid them. I know it's so cliche but take it one day, hour, minute (you get the idea) at a time, and be kind to yourself. At least you're aware of the problem and that's a great start.

If you go back to an addiction, you are back at square one. If you admit your are an addict, you have begun to help yourself and there is hope. Start deep thinking about when and what caused your addiction and see if you might find some answers there. (could be peer pressure, sadness, fear, boredom, anger, abuse, etc) underlying issues create the addiction. Start there and search for answers. Seek out self-help groups/therapy if you need. You will continue to go back to an addiction when you still have the issues that caused it.

Go for help! The first step in treating a problem is realizing it exists.!! Go to the 12-step program that fits your addiction and work the program and get support from the group! It's easier when you have a support group behind you.

I would strongly suggest seeking out a 12-step program for support and to gain a better understanding of the nature of your addiction. When you find people who can identify with what you are going through and tell you what they have done to stop using, it can help you to stop if you have an open mind and a strong desire to quit. In those rooms, they welcome you with open arms and no judgement, no matter how many times you have "failed".

make sure it is out of your reach so it will be harder to get to it. when you think about the thing you are addicted to, and no matter how much you want it at that moment, think about how you are going to feel at square one. no matter how much you are craving it, just remind yourself that you really dont want it. and it is probably bad for you. plus, you're a good person and your body doesnt deserve whatever you are addicted to.

Try bringing some positive activities into your life. Bring all that you want, no matter how silly they may seem. Concentrate on them and make them #1 on your agenda. With enough practice, you should be able to revert back to them when the negative thoughts start coming in again.

Your'e addiction is a crutch. You should shoot yourself in the foot anytime you "goto" your addiction. This should stop your lame brain attempts to be rid of the problem.

I'm glad you are thinking about stopping your addiction.
That is the beginning.
And it is a long way to stop but it can be done.
Just think about the reasons why or what would get you to stop.
And it doesn't matter why or what would get you to stop. Just so you'd stop.
I stopped smoking because I did not want my dog to get cancer. Do you think my dog cares? But I love him.
Best of luck to you. Get help & talk to people in the appropriate field.
