Our society is kinda in a period of transition. In the past, people bandaged over their stress/depression/anxiety/etc. and hid it because they were ashamed. Now, with medical research and social research, people are aware of the terrible harm in sweeping all this stuff under the rug. Also, now that there are effective treatments, something can be done, so now people have an incentive to talk about what is the matter.

It's good to go to therapy, because if you never resolve your emotional troubles, you will inflict it on others, even your own kids if you ever have any. Plus, you will deal with life's inevitable hardships much better, and suffer less.

You have no reason to feel weak. Depression is a MEDICAL ILLNESS. If you had diabetes, you wouldn't feel weak. It's all in genetics, and you have absolutely no control over genetics. No one does, at the current point in time.

Seeing a therapist/psychologist can be helpful in getting you back on your feet. If you are struggling with depression, you need to talk to someone. It's not "un-macho" to get some help sometimes. We all need a shoulder to lean on at times.

If you feel uncomfortable about telling people, you do not have to. It can be your private secret. I'm sure, however, that your friends would be supportive, not condescending, and friends are a great resource at times to if you're feeling down.

You have no reason to feel embarrassed. Many people go to therapists, for different reasons, and it has nothing to do with being weak, or unmanly.

By the way, I'm a teen girl, and I would never think that a guy was weak if he saw a therapist. It would just let me know he was human, and felt sad sometimes too.

If you need medical attention, you see a doctor. Please, if you need it, see a therapist.

Best of Luck.

Feeling depressed & sad has nothing to do with being crazy. If your body is sick you go see a a Dr , the Dr gives you medicine & you take it to feel better. The same with a psychologist or therapist. You are not weak. The fact that you recognize that you need to talk to some one shows your strength. Ask your mom or dad to make you an appointment. It's not as bad as you think.

There is absolutely nothing wrong w/ seeing a therapist. Some people really benefit from it. I'm a teenager and I have many friends that have to go see some. In truth, they benefit very muchly from talking to someone that will try to help them with their problems. I highly recommend u see one if u feel the need to seek help with issues in ur life or just to talk to someone who will listen.

When you seek help you want to learn and become stronger and that is just what you will do. Good on you!! not many people are strong enough to ask for some help. It takes courage, so when you go? you are couragous already... See? Only good things will come from that and you want to feel better so you try to do that. Nothing wrong with that! good on you!!

It is just someone to talk to who understands depression better than anyone you can imagine. Don't feel bad or upset about it.
