It is meant as a display of the fact that she's having sex. To mature adults, it's as if the recipient of the hickey is saying, "Hey, I did it and my partner wants everyone to know." It's not necessarily a display of being in love. It's a display of being in LUST. It is DEFINITELY inappropriate to go to work with a hickey. A hidden hickey is ok, though, just not on display.

Hickies are seen as trashy. If a girl has one she is a slut in my eyes and a complete turn off. Guys, same thing. Hide your hickies, nobody cares that you got laid last night. Public display of hickies is disgraceful. And no I am not an old person, I am 29.

Immature: Hickies are for junior high school, although they might accidentally happen to well intending adults... if so, you should make an attempt to hide it.
I don't need to know what you did last night by looking at your neck. Gross.
Nowadays, people tend to judge people (especially women) with hickies. They think (rightly or wrongly) slutty, trashy, easy. No self respecting woman wants people thinking of her that way. Especially not in the work place.

Having a hickey used to be a "hands off", I'm taken kind of symbol. In reality hickies are nothing more than small blood clots and unless you're a hemophiliac, blood clots aren't good for you.
Furthermore, having hickies where they can be seen are kind of embarassing, it's kind of like allowing people to see into your personal life.

I guess that says "taken" in a trashy immature way.....Maybe...but I think a ring might show that a little better. Honestly it seems like she is advertising that she had sex, not that she is taken. She might just be easy, cause anyone can give you a hickey. Pretty much everyone has sex, so why advertize? When was the last time anyone thought having a huge bruise was sexy? Last time I thought that was funny was the 8th grade. It is a pooling of broken blood vessels, and that is about the least unattractive thing to show your "love" I can think of. I guess it isnt bad, just very Jr. High and a little gross.

If this lucky guy in her life wants to show a girl that she is special to him, perhaps sucking the blood to the of her skin is not as polite, respectful, etc . . . as something like maybe giving her a nice piece of jewelry, or even wearing a t- shirt that says "I sure do love So-in-so and I want every body to know that!" If she really loves him and is off limits then she can wear a similar t-shirt with his picture on the front that says "Property of so-in-so, and I am off limits even though I am good looking." You know something to that affect.

I agree I do think they are nice. But when you are teens its okay to get away with it and when you are an adult its not. Society is cruel like that. I think if you want to leave on you should probably leave it on a different part of the body.

Who said they are bad, they are a report of your night of good sex or bad. Hickeys don't mean you even had sex. They only confirm your skin was sucked. So frankly nobody cares especially those who don't have anyone to have sex with, lol. Its kind of like ones genitals its private don't expose it. OK maybe not genitals maybe underwear, so try to keep it covered. To each there own, but those who don't get, they don't like to know you got.

Hickeys on a woman makes her appear loose and trashy. Hickeys on man says his lover is immature and feels the need to "mark" her territory.

it's something like forcing someone to invade your privacy, it's complicated. All I know is it's VERY frowned upon to display in the workplace.
