If you stopped and all of your cuts have healed, you shouldn't be too hurt, but you may get an infection if some aren't healed yet, or if the razor was not clean... try putting iodine on any of the cuts that aren't healed, use neosporn(sp?) and try getting a doc appointment.

I'm glad you stopped, it's hard to top, cutting is an addiction, just like drugs, or alcohol, good for you!

I think the most harmful part about it is the scars because they're going to remain with you for the rest of your life, and every time you see them, you'll be reminded of whatever incident it was that made you cut. Also other people might see the scars and jump to conclusions about you, but those conclusions will probably be wrong.

So it won't physically harm you (unless it got infected or you hit a major vein or something), but you can still be emotionally hurt from cutting in the past.

But good for you for stopping! I know it's hard

It is good for your physical body that you are not injuring yourself but how is your mental and emotional being? When people cut themselves they hope to accomplish a couple of things. One is to replace emotional pain with a physical pain that will get better without any action on their part. The other reason is to let what they perceive to be the "bad" in them out. Unless you understand why you cut yourself, there is no guarantee that you will not begin again.
I feel that the action of cutting yourself is unhealthy because it does not allow you to actually face the emotional turmoil which is causing you to engage in this action.
You need to be brave and ask yourself why you cut yourself, and then you need to explore other ways to acknowledge and deal with the emotional pain you are feeling. A counselor would be of great benefit in this sometimes painful process of confronting yourself.
You will always bear the physical scars of your actions but hopefully your emotional scars will heal and help you to grow into the beautiful person you can be.

Hey there. I used to cut myself when I was in college and now I am 7 years older and look back and realise how dumb I was. No harm done, as long as you dont make it stick with you. This habit I got when I saw others doing it. Now I put olive oil to remove the scars. I think things happen in life that we feel no one understands. Just cheer up and respect yourself. The way I am today I can slap anyone who troubles me instead of myself getting hurt in the bargain.

I use to cut when I was younger, and I grew up to lead a normal happy life and no longer cut myself. It's important that if you feel the need to cut again that you should seek help but as long as you learn to deal with the emotional pain that caused you to cut you will be okay.

My understanding is that self-harmers do so because the physical pain they inflict on themselves is perceived to be more painful than the emtional pain they feel - it's almost an alternative or better option for them, like a distraction. Something made you stop so did you overcome the psychological pain? If so, you;re well on your way to leaving this behund you.

No. cutting really isn't good at all to do to your body. You put your body under imense stress and give yourself wounds that your body has to heal. Stopping is the best thing you can do and since you have, that's great. SInce you stopped, nothing will happen to your body now. Congratulations on stopping. :)
