Probably fast food, the use of fats to cook and fry foods, and trans fatty acids used in everything from french fries to chocolate chip cookies and many pastries. Many peoples lifestyles may be their reasoning for turning to such things, eating on the go and such, however the alternatives for healthy eating are expensive and not as convenient as McDonald's and burger king. Even buying organic vegetables and foods are much more expensive than non-organic foods and as a result people have to consider the cost of feeding their family in addition to the convenience needed to work. There are many other factors but such things should be considered.

I think we should encourage healthier options from restaurants and cut out the use of trans fatty acids in all foods. For instance, If you could get a veggie burger and sweet potato fries for lunch on the go as easily as you could get McDonalds, you probably would. However, such places are like specialty stores, they are much much less abundant and most certainly not widespread which for most would require special trips or even research as to where one actually is in their area. If you see the greater majority of people aren't brown bagging it as much as those who eat out, then look at the options around say downtown areas and so forth for food, then you can pretty much see what they'll have to eat. This is something we should push for to get us on the right track and still keep our lives convenient and productive.

Get plenty of exercise and watch your calories. One of the main causes is not doing this! If you sit outside a convenience store or McDonalds and people watch, you'll see this is true. And if you want to lose weight, the last thing that you want to do is to starve yourself, cause it will mess with your metabolism, which you need to burn off calories.

Eating too much. Period. It's the only cause of obesity except for some relatively rare disorders.

You can exercise like crazy, but if you continue to eat too much you'll still gain weight. You can eat only the healthiest foods but still if you eat too much you'll gain weight. No matter what you do, if you continue to eat too much you'll gain weight.

THE MAIN CAUSE OF OBESITY IS THAT FOOD IN HIGH FAT CONTENT IS TOO READILY AVAILABLE TO BUY AND EAT. IN ORDER TO HELP OURSELVES WITH THIS PROBLEM WE NEED TO CHANGE OUR EATING HABITS TO EATING LOWER FAT FOODS, AND ANOTHER REASON FOR THE OBESITY PROBLEM IS THAT PEOPLE ARE MORE LEISURE THESE DAYS AND GET LESS EXCERCISE THAT THEY DID IN YEARLIER YEARS, SO WE NEED TO INCORPORATE MORE ACTIVITY AND EXCERCISE INTO OUR LIFE.
