How do you know if they are significant or normal?

I don't get them all the time and when I told the doctor she didn't seem concerned. Sometimes it does hurt quite a lot and then I may not experience it again for afew weeks. I have an eating disorder which I know can put pressure on your heart, infact you could die from heart failure but since the doctor wasn't bothered, perhaps I shouldn't be. Once or twice i felt slight pains in my arm with it too, which i know is a bad sign but because it doesn't happen all the time I don't know whether it's fine or not. Any advice?

My dad has heart disease so I kind of know some stuff...Although I suppose it puts me at a higher risk if it runs in the family, don't it??

Family history of heart disease puts you at higher risk, but it takes a while to kill you. Rarely do people under 50 have heart attacks. I suspect that if you're vomitting regularly, this could be esophageal in nature. Does your doctor know about your eating disorder?
If you're not vomitting, it could be just gas pains.
Get treatment for your disorder. Eating disorders are more often fatal than any other psychiatric diagnosis.

Does the pain come on when you are walking, running, climbing stairs etc or just when you are sitting there?

What is the pain like? Dull ache, sharp stab, crushing etc?

Do the pains come on gradually or all of a sudden? Does anything make the pain go away or make it worse? Is the pain worse when you breathe and stop if you hold your breath?

Any other symptoms? NAusea, vomit, palpitations, sweating, jaw pain, arm pain.

What medications are you on?

You mention an eating disorder - what is this?

You are too young to have heart disease but if you are severely underweight then that will cause you problems. What is you weight and height?

You don't say how old you are but I think you must be young if the Dr. thinks "You will grow out of it"? This could be very common old fashioned "Growing pains" or with the eating disorder it may be angina? If you are concerned about your Dr. you could always get a second opinion. Good luck.

It could be indigestion, try eating very healthily and see if that helps - I used to get heart burn and when I started eating less fat and more fibre it went away. The pain in your arm is more worrying. I suggest you go back to your doctor and ask him the reasons why he is not concerned.

I would go to see another doctor if this is not possible
Be firm and ask to have tests I don't like the pains in your arm especially since heart problems run in your family Please go back and get it checked out
