I like my hair long because it keeps me warm. When I had short hair I looked freakishly skinny. And since my hair is longer I have more style options.

Up until two months ago my hair was super long (and I liked it that way and so did those around me)...but to answer your question about why some women get it cut short, especially from long styles, I would say it is simple personal choice.
I cut mine from almost sitting on length to shoulder length because I could no longer put it up in a pony-tail for more than an hour without getting headaches.
Also I gave mine to Locks of Love, which I know a lot of people do. I'm thinking about growing it long again and cutting it just to go to this wonderfurl organization.

My hair is thick and when I wore it long, almost to my waist it took HOURS to dry, even with a dryer. It still does and it's mid chin length now.
It also depends on her mood. I don't think any of us would really want to do a Britney, but at different stages of a woman's life she wants a different look.
Also her face type plays a big part on what kind of style of hair cut will look on her.
Short hair on older women sometimes ages them but really long hair looks horrible too, so most women I know go for a mid length cut as they age.

I chopped off all my long hair 5 years ago, and have kept it short ever since. I was tired of looking like all the other girls who have long hair, and short hair is much easier to manage with my active lifestyle. Plus, it's always fun to go spiky at a party!

I think short hair looks better on most women than they realize. More of them need to be bold and set themselves apart from the rest of the pack.

Because when you have long hair, you have more options, plus short hair is more up to date, even though i prefer it long.
