I'll be in Italy and was wondering what the Italian is for things such as Ibuprofen (pain reliever), Neosporin (antibacterial...for when you get cuts and scrapes or burns), band-aids, fever reducers and so forth. What are their names in Italy? What are the most popular brands for these items?

Also, another question. Is it cheaper to buy food at the open markets or at the bigger, super markets? I know that the food at the open markets would taste better though. And, in Rome does the public library have a small section that has books written in English? Or, is there a book store that has books in English?

Thanks for the help.

The first person gave a good translation for medicines although I would advise you to bring your own, at least ibuprofen and paracetemols as they cost more in Italy, I always stock up any chance I have when in the uk. Use a large supermarket they are all pretty good these days and cheaper. As for books probably an English or American book shop although buying English books here will be expensive. Have a good trip!

The answerer above is confused by your word "library" - he thinks it's "libreria", meaning bookstore. There is no public library in Rome. There are bookstores in the downtown are, and you can certainly buy some books in English. The pharmacies have most everything you need; just explain (by gestures, if need be) what the problem is, and they'll give you what you need. If you have severe headaches or other pains, ask for Aulin (ow-lin); it's great.
