Pharmacist told me to take it at night, since it has the potential to knock you out. I only started taking it two nights ago, but I haven't slept much at all. I don't know if it's the drug, or if it's my anxiety about taking the drug (have had bad experiences in the past with psych meds).

Anyone on imipramine? When do you take it? What side effects did you experience initially?

Imipramine is a tri-cyclic anti-depressant. It has many, many side effects. Drowsiness is a side effect, along with anxiety. Common side effects for Imipramine are drowsiness, dryness of mouth, headache, increased appetite, nausea, dizziness, tiredness or weakness, unpleasant taste, and weight gain. It is generally given at bedtime.
This drug is normally a 2nd to third line drug; it is not given lightly.
