I'm looking to buy a 4X4 pick-up. It needs to have a back seat and be safe. It would be great if it had good gas mileage too as I'm a college student. It also would be good if it was good for off roading. Which pickups are the best?

I'm short (5'1) but I want a big truck so it NEEDS to have adjustable foot peddles (or just not be very big in that area).

big truck with 4 wheel drive capable off road and good gas mileage? that's a pretty tall order. The bigger the truck the worse the mileage. I personally find the short wheel base of a jeep to be good for off roading and about the most economical 4x4 out there. We have 4 cyl jeeps in the club that do quit well off road. In fact my cj7 has a 4 cyl. in it. Longer wheel bases are good for hill climbs but not the twistys or rocks. To get them good on rocks you need lift and tires. And then you sacrifice economy. The shortest of the bunch is my cj5 and it does incredibly well off road at the cost of mileage. On a good day I get 15 mpg in it. If you can afford newer I would look into maybe the ford ranger or Chevy s10 or Colorado. The dodge Dakota is also pretty good. If you get a dodge get one with a 5 speed as they are common for having problems with their autos. Smaller Toyota's and Nissan's work well but they just don't have the room. Just be open minded. I needed a truck and ended up with a small trailer to pull behind my jeep. It works well for me and is always an option worth at least considering. Good luck and I hope this helps

First thing you have to factor in after you buy the truck, is servicing. Whilst American cars are cheaper to service Japanese tend to be more durable and give better fuel efficiency. Go to a website like msn or yahoo autos where you can put in features and get unbiased vehicle ratings on your vehicle choice...including warranties..Land Rover makes good off roaders too!!

Go with either a GMC or a Chevy. The GMC are the more luxurious than the chevy, but GMC's are not as capable.
