Phlegm - if it's yellow or green it's likely to be a bacterial infection. See your GP if it persists. If it's white, normal, don't worry. If it's flecked with red, - blood from straining to cough and you have burst small blood vessels, don't worry. If's streaked with blood, or is brown or black, this is more serious and you should see a GP. If it's been going on for longer than 3 weeks, regardless of colour, see a GP.

It is phlegm (pronounced: flem). It comes from your lungs and sinuses. The common cold will produce this. Smokers are especially prone to coughing this gunk up regularly. The red stuff is a little blood from your sinuses, no worries. Cough it up and get rid of it tho, better out then in.

Mucous. Snot....

Our body produce it. Your ears nose and throat are connected. This can also cause your throat to be irritated.

If you have not been out of the country or around anyone with a serious disease....

Don't be alarmed as this is normal with a cold and or allergies...if it does not go away in 2 weeks call your doctor. there really isn't a lot you can do. You can purchase an OTC that will help talk to the pharmacist.. You want the mucous to come out! Drink plenty of water... you may also experience a stomach ache... this is becasue the mucous is setteling in your stomach....

the yellow stuff is phlegm, the red stuff could be blood but im not sure, get urself to a doctor he will tell what it could be. if you are coughing very hard it could contain small amout of blood. as for the yellowish/brown which is phlegm and traces of nicotine if you smoke or around smokers.

It is called phlegm which the body produces in order to soothe irritated or inflamed membrane.
The brown & red stuff in it sounds like you are coughing blood.
See a Doctor now!
