Not according to the bible. It says that God is a jealous God.

Deuteronomy 4:23 Be careful not to forget the covenant of the LORD your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything the LORD your God has forbidden. 24 For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

Acts 17:29 "Therefore since we are God's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill. 30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead."

Symbols are representations of for the purpose of remembrance, they are not idols! Idols are representations of an object for worship. It is not the making of the symbols that is bad but the worshiping of the symbols that is bad. Our worship should be for God only never for the symbols.

If I hold in my hand a cross and pray, am I praying to God or to the cross? It seems simple but this is the confusion we are dealing with, Of course I'm praying to God.

Used in worship as a focus towards the goal? Yes. Imagery is used in all religions, be they physical or mental.

A Christian sermon weaves an image or images that the priest, minister or preacher want folks to concentrate on. The songs song in church give people images "Shall we gather at the river", "We are climbing Jacobs ladder" "Onward Christian soldiers" all have symbols and imagery.

It depends on what religion you follow and based on the protocol image and idol worship is followed. Until or unless you understand the religion, the facts, the deeper meaning of why certain things are done the way they should be done it is pointless just to follow certain steps in the rituals of worship as they will prove superficial. A deeper understanding will promote a healthier belief in the various trends of worship in any religion. Otherwise it leads to confusion and disbelief and conflicts

I think you are confusing worshipping the things made with our hands for a signal to tell people how you are aligned religiously. The Torah is frequently used on Rosh Hashanna and Yom Kippur cards. The Magen David is used on lots of things Jewish. No one prays to these symbols, it is how symbols are used that determines whether they are 'verboden'. Stop letting a term become a lighthouse beam. I hate that.

If you mean, is this a form of idol worship, I think you're pushing it. I once went to a church that was bringing in new believers. During the service, some of them would pick up a banner and march around the church with it. Hopefully, they'll grow out of it. But, in the meantime, if that's what they need to connect to God, I have no problem with it.

Do you use pictures and/or other objects to remind you of loved ones? It is alright to use images and symbols in worship as long as they draw you closer to the One, True God.
